I can't believe those two poor American guys have been executed, beheaded, because of this flippin war. And now the remaining Brit's life is hanging by a thread - he's certain to die. Did you know that he's from Liverpool? That his family live just a mile down the road from where Nony and I are. It's kinda scary to think of how close this stuff can get to you.

I pray to god that some how, some way, there is any end to this nightmare of hostage-taking and rebellion. It's just my humble opinion, I know, but I think the troops should get their butts the hell out of Iraq and let them get on with sorting themselves out.

OMG Laurie, I had no idea this had happened to you. Bless you, hon.

I totally undertsand your point of view. The whole war issue is such a catch 22 situation in my opinion.

Laurie, I have more respect for you because you are so brave. Brave for what you have been through, brave for what you still go through, brave to still be willing to go through more, and bravest for posting about it all here. I can't tell you how bad it hurts me to know what happened to you. You make me laugh, and you seem like a genuinely nice person, no one deserves what happened to you and I am so sorry.

I don't have all the answers here, of course, I would not want to be the president, I am certain of that. Maybe until I am better informed I should keep my opinions to myself. I just hate all the violence and death. I guess I figure if we leave them alone they will do the same. From what you are telling me, that wouldn't be the case.

I was told never to discuss religion or politics with friends, I think I will take that advice now.....huge hugs and apologies for offending you! Sandra

I can remember the night I sat up in bed watching TV and the program was interrupted by President Bush. He announced that we had gone to war with Iraq. I then felt a sickening feeling come over me. I never agreed with his approach to the war. I still feel that way. I was like most Americans- very thrilled when Saddam was captured. But, regardless of his capture, things haven't gotten better over there. I'm very sad about what is happening over in Iraq. It is like a continuous bad nightmare that lingers like a damning hangover. I now turn the channel when the news focuses on it, because I know that it is an obvious quagemire that will never end.

Kim,

I agree with you on this. Would I or did I vote for Bush? No way! I do believe that we must stand up to terrorists. I do think that Bush has made a mess of things and is pretty much a puppet in alot of this.

There is also a Bill before congress for mandatory military service of all men and women between the ages of 18 and 26 to serve two years in the military or a or a civilian service equivilancey that would be in support of the military.

They have already made an agreement with Canada that they will not allow people of these ages cross the border during this draft. Billions of dollars have been set in a fund for this way of building or military.

Many of these things are in articles and attachments to bills that you need to read through in order to know what is really up.

Do a New Bills search and you will be suprised and wide eyed at some of the things our government is planning as if they already know that they will still be in power.

I always keep up on the latest at the VA.

Bush also wants to take away womens therapy for PTSD AND SEXUAL ABUSE. Fact- 40-50% of all military women are sexually abused. (Apparently Bush does not think we are worthy of care. They want to pass a bill to remove all women therapist from the VA.

As far as Veitnam goes I do not see how this is in anyway the same thing.

The Veitnamese never attacked us or declared war on us. They never came in to our country and killed thousands of women and children and men who were civilians.

We somehow involved ourselves with a civil war and the reason was to not allow communism to take over the rest of veitnam.

I think we were wrong there except that we need to protect our interests.

IMHO we need someone who can lead this war without the huge mess.

I wish we could bring all of our military home to protect and defend our country.

I don't know if that could be realistic though.

We did make a mess and I believe it is a mess that we have a responsibility to somehow clean up. Remember I Iraq threw American missionary's in prison for teaching Christianity. They used weapons of mass destruction against their own people. (One of the clues that they had weapons of mass destruction.) And scientists who escaped from Iraq told us that they were being made to design weapons of mass destruction to be used against Americans and the western world.

I think we agree on most everything.

And thanks for the post.

Sandralea,

I have not been offended in any way. Not by you or anyone else on this board. Your oppinion does matter and I would feel terrible if what I said would stop you from voicing your oppinions. I love to talk politics and religion as long as everyone understands that everyone is intitled to their own oppinions. There are just to many people in the world to all have the same beliefs or oppinions. It would be so very boring.

I respect your oppinions. Please do not keep them stifled on my account.

Hugs,

Laurie

Also,

No, not brave. I was doing my job. A job that I chose to do.

Yes, I would do it all over again. Others would not.

Sometimes I believe there is a fine line between bravery and stupidity. LOL.

I hesitated to write my story because I don't ever want anybody to think that I would want pity or to think that I want to be a martyr.

I was honestly just doing my job.

I brought this topic up in therapy and group today. It was very good to talk about it.

All of the women in my group at the VA are military veterans who suffer from PTSD. Mostly due to abuse and sexual abuse while in the military.

So I am not alone.

I am proud of my country and would always consider it an honor to fight for my country.

I am proud that I did serve my country.

No one wants death and destruction. But right now, no one has come up with a better way to keep the terrorists at bay.

Again, please do not stop voicing your oppinions here because of me. That would take away the whole reason for this safe board.

Thank you for you very kind words.

Hugs,

Laurie

Thank you Caly.

I am glad for this board and the support. We do not always have to agree to be supportive.

I am happy to have all of you here at LL.
