OT: War and poetry

I've always struggled with poetry, be it reading or writing... if someone says read this, or if someone writes something and posts it, I'll read. So it is this happened in front of me, and knowing that some here love to read and write poetry, thought I'd post it here.
This is from a woman who saw first hand the horror of Vietnam. What annoys me more than anything is how we simply go over and around this sentiment:
Life is precious
Life is fragile
Never again

If you care to see her writings:

This reminds me of the way the rules have changes since Vietnam, you know the ones where the media isn't allowed to film all the caskets returning home...?
And the way I felt watching that tape of the American, bound and blindfolded, knowing he was about to be assassinated...
And Kim's idea that maybe the return of the draft might better involve people in discussion and voting and just plain CARING what's going on...
I feel so pissed off, yet helpless sometimes.
I share your helpless feeling. Now there are rumblings of taking action against Iran, with reports of various potential scenarious circulating around the White House. In 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis, the president's cabinet was asked what course they favoured. One person in that meeting refused to say attack... and we were so fortunate that person was John Kennedy. I can remember nuns having us get down and cover our heads with our hands, practicing in case there was a war. This information was not known until two decades later, but our president saved our derrieres. I have no such confidence in this president.
ruh roh... I've rambled! Sorry...
Nony, your post regarding the post-election timing of military engagement in Fallujah (sp) reminds me of another Vietnam parallel... politically driven decision-making in
Kim

Just briefly Raye, there was a story about Bushhead being in the military in the Air Force, it seems that he didn't perform like the airman that he was supposed to be. However, Dan Rather had to apologize for telling a very sensitive story about it. To a certain degree, I think the media does what its supposed to, it's just when high ranking officials get caught in the poop, they have to force a credible reporter to apologize for telling the truth.
Unbelievable.

At the risk of sounding wishy washy, I rather hope to sound open minded. You bring up such valid points. Maybe because I read them and marinate on them a while but you are changing my mind somewhat on the veitnam and draft issues. I still have questions on these issues though.
I like to read your posts as far as hearing the other side.
And the more I hear what is and is not happening before/after the elections the more suspicious I get. Not that I am a republican because I could never justify it, but I always want to believe that my government wants to do what is best for my country and not what is best just for them personnaly. But things sure do increasingly look very suspicious.
I just hate to see the lives lost being lost in vain.
Hope you are having a good day,
Laurie
