Eating and Working Out

I would like to announce that I have been running 6 miles on Saturday now for a couple of weeks. I'm proud of that. Just thought I would mention my accomplishment. :)

I have some questions for you ladies. I don't know if anyone will have any ideas. But, I want to create a better diet for myself. I eat alot of beans and rice because I'm on a limited budget and it is cheap. I've read that you need to eat more fish. I don't really know how to prepare fish. I've also read that salmon is good for you. I would also like to try some healthy shakes and stuff, because I have blood sugar problems and sometimes that is a real bummer, you know.

I want to combine a good diet with a good workout plan that won't leave me with blood sugar problems. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your time,

rj

rj,

My gf could make some suggestions. However she could get into trouble not knowing medical things about you and the fact that she is no longer liscensed, so she cannot actually prescribe or make an actual diet plan for you.

I will get back to you on this.

RJ, I could NEVER run 6 miles, like Laurie, I would have to stop for a smoke break. My neighbors look at me funny when I take my dogs out for a powerwalk(twice a day), I always bring a cigarette! On the fish thing, I can't fix it either, and I don't eat fried food, so I take fish oil capsules from GNC, if you get them make sure you take the de-scented ones or they will haunt you all day long, they stink bad. Hugs, Sandra

I would like to think of myself as a good sea food chef. After being in the Navy for almost ten years living on the coast everywhere I fished and ate fish all the time.

I will be back tomorrow to give you some awesome ways to fix fish to die for.

My meds are taking me into a bit of a la la land right now. So I am going to veg and watch tv.

Talk to you later.

Well rj, I have diabetes type2, I have to watch my weigh, and I generally have to take my sugar levels. (I haven't lately, because I hate sticking myself)anyway, I generally eat a balanced meal. My doctor has told me that I have lost weigh, when I came out of the nursing home, I weighed 180, and for a person that 5'6", that's not good. So, when I came home, I started eating moderately and watching my sugar intake. I drank water, sparingly, I can't stand water, but I drank it anyway, and I drank nothing but diet sodas with a lot of ice. After a while, and keeping myself on my moderate diet, I lost 9lbs. My doctor was very happy about that, and so was I, lol. So, that's all that I can suggest. I would first ask a doctor about your blood sugar, but I would also, eat moderately, and, of course, keep up the exercise.

p.s. I also exercise, except, I do yoga. It helps me to deal with stress and it does wonders for gradual and safe weight loss.

Here are some suggests that I do, I work out 5 days a week at the gym and take two weight lifting classes, walk 3-4 at least 4 x's a week, and practice yoga. Eating right has a single person, is some things I do, Spurtein, a great protein powder, I whip it in a blender with 8 oz of soy milk, this comes in different flavors, it is actually good and usually put some kind of fruit into as well and I drink this in the morning, I add perhaps a 1 slice of ww toast to have with it, this holds me for at least 4 hours, it is very filling. Lunches lots of salads/veggies, the way I prepare fish is a bit of olive oil in a pan, on low heat, put salmon or haddock, into the pan, add fresh ground pepper, garlic, um, very good, I cook it for about 25 minutes. Also , don't forget the water, I drink at least 64 ounces each day, I think that is why I have great skin at my age.

I do all my shopping at the natural food store, and eat on 25.00 a week, I do indulge every once in awhile in organic dark chocolate, yummy! Hope this helps and keep up the good work! gracemae59

Hey Laurie,

I've tried to get a grip on this blood sugar thing. I've even asked people- like at the Y and GNC. I get these crazy looks. LOL I don't know. I know I eat bad stuff sometimes. Like yesterday, I had pizza. I didn't have a blood sugar problem yesterday. Actually, I had pizza and a slice of pecan chocolate chuck pie. Anyway, if I pack in the calories, sometimes I'm okay. It is a tricky thing. Sometimes I feel like I've eaten enough, yet I end up with the shakes after a workout. I've been tested over and over again for diabetes (spelling?). I don't have diabetes. I guess that I should visit a doctor, but they are so expensive. I actually carry granola bars and peanut butter with me. LOL They are good when I get what I call the "crazys."

Thanks!

Living in the south, I've lived on fried food. Well, I don't eat it daily, but can't wait for some fried tenderloin, gravy, eggs, biscuits, and fried apples. YUMMY!!!!!

I tried Yoga once and the instructor kept giving me advice. LOL Instead of being patient, I was trying to do it like a cardio workout. She would say, "Slow down. Relax." Relax? Me relax? I'm the poster child for anxiety. LOL

Wow! You eat on $25 a week. I've been watching my budget trying to keep it under $40--that's for 7 days. I have a bad addiction to IBC Diet Rootbeer. That stuff is 3 something a pop. Whew! And, let's not mention the diet Yoohoos. OMG!!! Oh, I should also mention the Teddy Grahams- chocolate chip and chocolate. Good grief! And, Cheese Nips. Gotta have my cheese. I swear I'm French. As long as I have cheese and chocolate, I'm happy. It is hard to find organic around here. It exists, but you'll pay dearly for it. Glad to hear you can get it for around $25 a week. Where I live, you would pay twice what most stuff costs if you bought organic foods.

Take care. I really enjoyed your post. I'm going to look into making some of those shakes you mentioned! Oh, I'll try the salmon the way you mentioned as well. Thanks again!
