I went out to my car this morning out of the corner of my eye to the right, I saw something huge. I turn to look, and it was one big honkin Moose, in my 10 yrs. there hasn't been one this close to the house. He sauntered from the backyard, to the lower yard and went ganglying up the road, he was huge, antlers, I am 5ft, he had to be much taller than that. Of course, camera is in the house, darn, what a picture that would have been. What an awesome early morning sighting!!!!!

rofl... my old neighbourhood, woman across the street goes out to her car, looks up... bear. Dashes back to the house, where she had locked it and set the alarm. The bear is like 30 feet away... she fumbles and finally gets it open and back in. I would have fainted!

The following summer, another neighbour was up having a beer with me, while our kids were at her house. She had to go check on the dinner she had in the oven, walks out of my driveway, looks up... moose is looking back at her. Moose goes one way, Shelly back towards my house. She is all excited, we fly out the door in time to see the moose run across my lawn and down back. Nothing like having a few beers and seeing mooses (my favourite non-word!)

Well, during the cross country camping trip when I was 17 (mentioned somewhere in the Fun Friday thread) I went out into the woods in the mountains of northern Idaho to use the latrine.

I used to live in a house that was on church property (no, it wasn't a convent! lol), Anyway, behind the house was some woods. One particualr day, I was sitting in the kitchen looking out the window and I saw a fawn about midway, between the church and the woods.

I got up, slowly opened the door, went outside, and sat down at the picnic table that was outside. I was watching the fawn, and not far was the doe (she had to keep an eye on her child!) It was so incredible! I wanted to get closer, but I did have some common sense that particular day. But, eventually the doe went back into the woods.

Well, at least it was a convenient time to be spooked, lmao!

Not a moose related story, but a camping one... the first summer I was with my ex, we are at her parent's camp in Vermont. Her family is all partying, and one of her uncles drifts around the camp, which was a trailer... all of a sudden we hear a hell of a scream. He apparently hit the trailer when peeing, the trailer was not grounded... I still laugh at the thought of that.

Wow, gracemae, the more you post the more I wish I could have bought your house and Ollie!!

Sheila and I would love that. I have been to so many places but never have I ever seen as much wild nature as what you have in your own yard. Turkies and a Moose, wow! What state is it again?

Where DO you live!!!

I would love to see wild mooses, meeses, moo, whatever they are in the plural form in my yard.

My sister said her friend and husband moved from Cinc. Ohio to Wyoming. Once there she put out and filled all her humming bird feeders. She looks out the window to see if there are any humming birds, no birds, but 4 bears! She locks the door and calls the police.

They chew her out and tell her not to ever put things like that in her yard. They also got a kick out of the silly city girl in the country.
