I promised g/f I will start the 3 step patch program before bed Sunday night.

My doctor sent the whole set to me in the mail from the V.A.

I can go to the quit smoking program if I want to but will try not to at first.

I think the patch will be the only way I can do it.

G/f is going to do it with me. We spend $300.00 a month on cigs between the 2 of us.

We will be using it as play money and gambling money etc. now.

Sometimes I think if smoking doesn't kill me quiting will. LOL.

I also have to maintain my diet, and keep doing my treadmill, so look out world here comes the new improved Laurie, just like the good old days.

Hugs,
Laurie

Thank you Lee,

I certainly know how your S feels, I really do enjoy my cigs., but the doctor says I am on my way to heart failure and emphysema if I do not quit right now. She said she believes I have a good chance of reversing my health problems if I change my lifestyle right now so I just have to quit now. Smoking is not an option for me.

My emphysema test was borderline but I do have allergies too. I knew I have not been feeling so good, but I never thought it would be such serious matters.

I am still young and I feel young and I could just kick myself for doing this to my body.

G/f only smokes a couple cigs before and after work and on weekends. I am glad that she wants to do this with me, but I made it clear that she does not have too.

Most of our friends have quit now so we have been sitting in nonsmoking sections when we go out to eat.

My mom even quit which I never thought would ever happen.

Hugs,
Laurie

Thank you Caly!

It seems to be one of the hardest things to do for some reason. I know that I have to do it though so I will.

I have been smoking since I was 12 yrs old. That's 32 years! WOW! Very bad!

Thank you for the support!

Hugs,
Laurie

Laurie, GOOD LUCK to you both! I know you can do it! I'm not quite ready to join you but will be here for you in whatever way I can be. The patch is great, I quit once when I used it. I am proud of you! Sandra

Sandralea, thank you for your support. I would not be quitting if I didn't have to.

I know how you feel, I still enjoy smoking. I have been smoking for 32 yrs, since I was twelve I started smoking regularly.

This won't be easy.

Hugs,

Laurie

Laurie, I have been smoking 22 years. Menthols, and I am afraid what they have done to me. I won't get into why I am not ready to quit so I don't talk you out of trying. THe patch is great - you will not feel like you NEED to smoke at all. You might want to, but you won't need to. When you want to - just substitute the behavior with anything but food. You will be amazed that you do not feel the physical need to smoke - it's really weird how well it works. Oh, don't put the patch in the same place all the time, or somewhere that you might sweat it off.

Well, thats all my advice, keep me posted. And once again GOOD FOR YOU BOTH, I wish success for both of you!

Well, one of my problems with quitting is the fact that it will cause a major cellular change in my body and cellular changes are what cause cancer. So that is a big concern for me. It seem like so many people who have quit smoking after smoking so long end up with cancer. Just something I have noticed.

Part of me believes that it is not god to stop anything cold turkey because it will cause a major change in the body. I sort of feel caught between a rock and a hard place.

But I do know for sure that if I do not quit soon I will really be in trouble.

I totaly understaand your not being ready. Trust me, I have never even tried to quit before, not ever. I just never wanted to quit.

Thanks for the info on where not to put the patch!

Hugs,
Laurie

Oooooooooooh cool beans! Good luck (((((Laurie))))) and (((((Laurie's gf))))), I wish I had the drive to quit smoking right now. I know I mentioned in an earlier post that I would like to join the challenge, but when I look at the big picture, I know I'd be setting myself up for yet another failure :(. Maybe later.....I know that y'all can do it though, so I'll definitely be cheering you on all the way!!!!!
