Apparently, I have to resort to a locked box somewhere.

>I'm sorry but how do you get into these things? Sweetie, I think you need to learn how to screen people. I am shocked that this has happened to you.

I grew up in a chaotic, abusive, alcoholic family.

Adolescents dont just 'become' addicts over night! My son at 14 was the nicest, mellowest, brightest child you could imagine....by 16 he was a full fledged crack head doing exactly as Pams roomies kid is doing......age 17 he entered re-hab. And when you love said child you are often blinded, as I was, as to how bad the problem has become. I, personally, hope you never 'have' to understand how it happens.....cause being there is the only way you will.

It was good to read your perspective on how impressionable kids can be, in this case wrt medications. My DDs always ask why I'm getting a prescription refilled. They want to know if I'm sick, etc. Most times it's my mood stabilizer that I'm getting. I'm finding that determining how much to tell them requires walking a fine line. I am very well aware that these types of medications could be a part of their lives one day, so hopefully I can help them grow up having a healthy respect for drugs.
