Christmas lights, ugh!

Someone please help me out here. I am having one of my "I CAN do this without a man" moments. Jen and I went outside this evening and hung Christmas lights on the house. We tried the roof clips and that stunk so we whipped out the duck or duct tape, whatever it is. That looked really stupid. Then my neighbor came home and offered her staple gun, that was cool. So, we froze out tails off and hung the lights, it took about 6-8 strands to get across the front of the house. Jen held the ladder, that was sinking into the grass because we have had rain lately, while I stapled the lights up. When we were done we wound pine garland around the posts and around the little lamp post in the front yard. I hung a prety wreath on the front door. We turned the lights on and they looked wonderful! We were so proud..
We went in and ate beef stew and warmed up and got ready to go to my nephews birthday party. Yes, I took my young girlfriend to my ex's family event, but thats another story.
Anyway, when we shut the door all the lights went out :(
I tried the outlet and it works. I know because I plugged a radio into it and it worked. Soooo, please tell me I don't have to check all the strands individually, while on the ladder, in the cold. Or worse, all the lights, they are icicle ligts, millions of them. HELP, I have them all up and it took so long and they looked so nice, I am sad now. My neighbors must think I am weird, hanging them and then not turning them on...*sigh*

That seems easy enough! We'll try it later today and I will let you know. Maybe I will just take down the strands that I stapled through and replace them, I had extra. But I did need to know how to turn the power off, thanks. I'll let you knowhow it goes. Hugs, Sandra

Know what is funny about going to Home Depot and asking anything??? Brandi is a supervisor there and the people there are NOT trained for their positions except the basics! They are regularly switched around so they have exp in all areas but I wouldnt trust them for advice... why would an electrician go to work there starting at 7 bucks an hour when he could do what he knows making hella more?!!? I used to think they were experts till I found out they are hired off the streets like everyone else. Her bro (bio dad to Jasmine) worked in electrical and people like you'd come in and say what she said and he would laugh about it later cause he had no idea....I wonder how many people got fried from his advice! Now I trust my internet...you find it all here then go shop after you know what to do! la ya, Mandi

Oh, I know they are not experts, but they should and usually do know where to find what you need. Everyone here loves Home Depot for the service, not the field of expertise.
We just got Home Depot here a couple of years ago. Before that it was just Lowes.
I was just thinking for someone who has no idea what an electrical tool looks like it would help to ask someone in the department.
Still, you gotta love Home Depot!

OK, here's what happened. I had 9 strands of lights connected. I was only supposed to hook 3 together on one extension cord. I blew a fuse in the light strand and it needed to be changed. To get across the whole front of my house I need 3 extension cords, one for each set of 3 strands. The plug in part of the strand just slides open and theres these little fuses inside - who knew? LOL
Thanks for all your help!

Awww sorry. I would have told you that had I known you had to many strands together. I just never thought about it. I was to focused on the fact that you stapled wires. Lol.
Good catch on the fuses!

Laurie
