Udate, Sheila's father...

We are in Elkhart, Indiana. We are staying in a Signature Inn. Four of our dogs are boarded at our local kennel. The puppy is here with us. Sheila's Mom and Dad wanted us to bring her.
A couple of days ago Sheila's Dad took a turn for the worse. They had to do emergency surgery and amputate his other leg above the knee yesterday evening. Most of the family will all be here tomorrow.
He is awake and alert and say's he is not in near as much pain as he was before the amputation. At his age and with his heart problems the doctors said he should not even get his hopes up to walk again. They think he can learn to get around with a scooter and just relax and begin a new way of life. He seems to be accepting this and is finally eating and asking what foods are best for him to stay alive. He held the puppy and petted her for a long time. He was very happy to see her and hold her. (The hospital allows pets to visit as it seems to help people's moods etc.)
Before this all happened I was working on a huge video taping and editing project. The woman I was hired by recomended me to our comedy club as she heard they need help working on a huge taping and editing project that will be on going through 2005 for the comedy clubs two clubs celebrating their 25th anniversary. The General manager called me the other night and asked if I would be willing to do the job. I said yes and she then asked why I have not been doing comedy for so long. Finally it all ended up that I will be doing a lot of MC work for the 2 clubs here in the city. They have not been having any luck with the new upcoming comedians. They cannot seem to get the MC thing down and all want to start as feature acts. (Yeah right!) And the general manager said they all stink and think they are the next Lenny Bruce. Geeze!
So when we get back home after being here until Friday and then to my sister's in Cincinnati Ohio, I will be doing both comedy and video taping and editing, and it looks like I have a good chance for my grant to start a small production company for making film documenteries.
I am excited about all of this!!
I am excited that Sheila's Dad is going to survive this amputation.
Sheila and I took some Christmas decorations up to his room today and decorated it. He really liked it and started talking about getting through therapy and going home.
We have decided to stay in a pet friendly hotel at my sister's since we have not had a vacation away from home without responsibilities for a few years.
Tomorrow, we get to sleep in and then go out for breakfast since we don't have to meet family at the hospital untill noon.
Sheila's spirits are up since visiting with her dad after the amputation.
I hope everyone is having a good week as I am sure you are all busy.
Happy Holidays to all who will be celebrating! I have missed you all so much!
Hugs,
Laurie

Well, I'm glad that Sheila's dad is doing ok, I'm glad that he's adopting to a new way of life so quickly. I can understand where he's coming from, but I'm happy that he's pulled through. I know Lee will be happy to read this, as I am. Please give Sheila a kiss for me and a hug. I still miss you terribly, but I know you have to tend to family. I'm still waiting when you, me and Cat can sit up until 1 and chat, I've got a lot to share with you.
Take care, buddy.
Hugs,
Sebastian

Sending out good and positive thoughts to her dad...
good news on the comedy, taping and editing stuff!
*hugs* to you both... oh, and critters too!
Wow that MC job sounds cool! Not like the MC's I'm familiar with I'm sure, hidden inside a studio with tons of CD's asking what I want to dance to next LOL! Okay, seriously though, You're gonna do great, with the MC job and the video documentaries (I think that's what you were describibg?).
Big (((Hugs))) to Sheila and her dad. I'm so glad to read that his spirits are positive.

Yes, these are all cool jobs and the best part is being self employed again.

Thank you so much for the kind words and healing angels.
It seems that getting rid of that leg and the infection etc., was very helpful to his health. Sheila's Mom had to decide if he is going to come home or go to a home because that would determine the course of treatment and therapy. Of course she said his coming home is the only option for them.
All of the other brother's and sister will be coming in tomorrow. They wanted to work it out so we could all be here together. It is always a nice time when everyone is here together.
Thank you,
Hugs,
Laurie and Sheila
