So...you want to quit smoking?
| Wed, 01-12-2005 - 11:35am |
In reading several posts; I get the feeling that some people would really like to stop smoking. Hard thing to do, however, I have found that the following questions have helped many people make the right decision, and they have stucked to it without any medical assistance. So.....answer the questions and later I will post the answer....It's a visual thing! :)
Would you go out to your garage, pick up a can of motor oil, and drink it?
Tell me why not?
Just answer the questions truthfully; go with me on this one! :)

OK, Halo, I'll play along with this one....I have a feeling I will be sorry!
I would not go to my garbage and drink motor oil because its poisionous and I would probably die immediately and painfully. It would more than likely taste disgusting and make me gag.

What flavor is the additive? If it's chocolate, no. *grin*
Seriously, for those that are trying to quit smoking and/or did quit, I do applaud you!
I know it's hard and I DO keep encouraging those that keep trying. *SMILE*
Good morning sandralea33,
"I would not go to my garbage and drink motor oil because its poisionous and I would probably die immediately and painfully. It would more than likely taste disgusting and make me gag."
Here's the answer.
If you took an external filter and placed it on your cigs for a week, look inside the filter and you will see oil. Every time you inhale, that oil goes down to your lungs and coats the alveoli. Alveoli are the passages that allow oxygen to flow into the blood stream. When oxygen becomes limited, you begin to suffocate. That's why you see people carry around oxygen tanks with tubes in the nose. So, you might as well buy a can of motor oil, put a pin hole in it, and drink daily.
With that visual, people realize wow! I take it a step further. Buy a can of motor oil and keep it next to your cigarettes and carry it with you like it was a can of oxygen; it will remind you of why your trying to quit... In addition to that, carry some veggy sticks to pop in your mouth when you have the urge to smoke. This will help you not gain weight by putting the wrong foods in your mouth. It may be a pain in the derrier, but, it's effective, and less expensive than the patch or other remedies.
Cigarettes are poisonous and can cause you to suffer painfully, and give you a long slow death. At least the oil would kill you immediately. Either way it's sad. :(
I'm not one to go and lecture people. Because I'm a personal trainer, I have people who want to come and quit. It makes life easier for me, because I don't like to lecture...
Smoking is a personal issue, and hard to stop when everyone is pushing you to stop. It has to be a personal decision or people won't stick to it. The visual is a reminder for why you want to stop.
Thanks for going along with me on this post. I hope that it will motivate you to make the right decision for yourself.

In NC it is a cash crop...I am a respectful smoker in public as well as around people who are non-smokers.....All I know is the year after I quit completely I'll be hit and killed by a bus.....we all die....it's my one vice.I need to quit yet have no desire too....I have the right to posion myself if I want....:)
Ohhhhhh I think I see where this is going... not sure, but here goes.
Would you go out to your garage, pick up a can of motor oil, and drink it?------- No!
Tell me why not?--------- Poisen. It would seem like it must taste awful and again it would be toxic. It would just be unthinkable.

Sorry, I know you were somewhat joking, (ihope):) yet, please note that the message was for those who expressed an interest in stopping. Like I said in the post, I'm not one to lecture. :)
No not a smoker, however my dad was, and I dated a woman who was a smoker and not once was there an arguement or a request from me to stop. In fact, I made it a weekly ritual to buy her a carton of cigarettes when I saw she was getting low. I also drew her bath's often, and cleaned her car off and got it warm in the winter, and I had to wake up an hour early to get her coffee, and it took that long to get her up for work, even on my days off. I never complained about the spilled ashes or the smell of her clothes; I loved her for who she was. I still love her. In my heart I wanted her to stop, and her mom has informed me that she quit smoking now. I'm glad that she was able to break free. She has the prettiest blue eye's, veluptuous lips and beautiful smile. :)
The visual is a gift of love from me to anyone who wants to cross the bridge. I believe whole heartedly that what a person does to their body is their own business.
Once again Jo, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. If there is anything you need, you have my e-mail. That is an anytime invitation. ;)

I'm not one to go and lecture people. Because I'm a personal trainer, I have people who come to me for advice, and want to quit. It makes life easier for me, because I don't like to lecture...

By the way Laurie,
I see we have a lot in common. First, I love flying and I'm fascinated with hot air balloons. One day I want to buy one. You and your sweetie can join me for a flight, and you can take pictures from the air. Of course, you and her will not be able to join the mile high club in my balloon. It would be hard for me to look away! Hee hee :) Give me a few years for that one. Also, were veterans. woo hoo :)
