Hey eastie, and thanks for the wonderful questions:

do you think women have power? Yes. In every place in the world. Even in places where you didnt' think it was possible. If it weren't for women, the world would be dead.

Are they leaders in their workplace, home or communities? Yes. Of course, At one time the British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher was in charge, and she did rather well. You might say, that she did things with an "iron hand in a velvet glove". The you have the royal family, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, God rest her soul. The very humble Mother Theresa, she was very powerful, in her humility. Princess Diana, she's done a lot, for many people with Aids. We won't go into Emelda Marcos. Here in the US, we have women in Congress, the Senate, female Mayors, I think some female Governors?(not sure on that one). Women, thank the Goddess, (see? everywhere! lol), have made history. And it has helped us, have the rights that we now all enjoy.

My mom, I know for sure, is the "head of her house" no doubt, lol! And I'm the head of mine, living alone, there really isn't an issue, lol! There are women civil rights leaders, there are women that are missionaries, there are women religious leader.Female teachers and administrators of schools, from kindergarten all the way up to college and graduate schools, Kim is our professor. Women are even making sure the childern of this nation are eating properly, isn't that right Caly? lol. The women comedienne, especially Ellen D, and Lucille Ball and our own Laurie! Women are everywhere, and isn't it wonderful. My girlfriend, is the "woman" of her house, there's no doubt about that. There are some very strong actresses and singers that have very strong leadership abilities, but they channel that through their talents. My personal favorite is Katherine Hepburn. She could have an argument with a man, without having to manipulate or use any feminie wiles to get her point across, and still win the argument! I love Madonna, and not just for her sex appeal. She has respected herself and has maintained her artistic integrity, and still has me as a fan. Barbara Striesand, well, all she has to do, in my opinion, is just appear! LOL! Of course, I could go on and on.

How do you view power & leadership in relation to women?

Ans. I think that women have awesome power. Some remain balanced, while other women, forget where they came from. But as far as politics is concerned, Some of the wives even though they are silent, they do have some sort of influence as far as their husbands are concerned. They may not be able to tell him what to do, but they do have some influence on decisions on certain policies. My personal favorite political woman figure is Hilary Clinton. She has a quiet sort of power and I think she would make an awesome President.

Look out Bushhead! LOL.

She handled the scandel as far a Bill was concerend with such grace and poise, I simply admire her. She has my vote! LOL

Sorry, for going on and on. I really can't say too much about the women that have shaped history, or should I say herstory?

Hugs!

Hi eastie,
Yes, I do think women have power. One woman I can think of would be Dr. Condoliza Rice. I may have spelled that wrong. My Congress Woman Julia Carson.
My Mom seemed to have power as a Director of Marketing for ITT. She has since retired.
I also have a woman Mayor who is very respected. I live in a city within a city. It is the city of Lawrence in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Many countries have women leaders or in leadership roles. I have seen many women leaders in the military as well.
Well I think women can be very powerful. Some women are powerful in the home and community.I think that most men are seeing that woman can make good leaders. Yes there are still men that cannot take women in power but I think it is because they are weak men and feel threatened by powerful women, thinking it will make them look bad.
I think it is mostly women who raise children and bring them up in the way they should be. Boys and girls, and many of them become great leaders who were raised by women.
I feel like I have lapsed into a ramble here. Maybe I should quit now then come back later.
Good topic!
Hugs,
Laurie

That is so good you're surrounded by role models! I wish lots of other girls have that during their impressionable years. What do you think of the comment attributed to Harvard University's Pres. Summers about boys are better than girls at science and math because they are wired for them? This is from a guy that's running one of the ivy league school!

I think he needs to go back to the drawing board.
In my oppinion more boys have gone into science and math because girls were encouraged to be housewives and mother's etc, but women are saying they want to go in to science and math more these days because they can.
They really didn't do it years ago because it took the whole liv e long day to do the housework. Washing took the whole day. Cooking was mostly done from scratch and took a good portion of the day because they no sooner washed by hand the breakfast or lunch dishes then they had to start dinner.
Things have changed and women no longer have to be nailed down to the house so they are showing everyone that they can be just as good in math and science as men.
That is my take on it in a nutshell.
Good questions!

Laurie
