Hi Laurie,

My son is a whiz kid. I took him to a big LAN party at a church, and it was totally awsome. They must have had 30 computers up and running, and when I walked in with my son, the majority of the room came up to talk to him. He was a celebrity. lol I thought my son was shy and introverted, and here he was conversing with all these guys, and running me around showing me all the neat computers that he helped his buddies build. One had neon lights with a clear case, and another case had an alian face for the front cover! You don't find that at Gateway or Dell. Not that it's what everyone wants. We didn't have this cool stuff growing up!

The boy's know where to buy the hardware and software at a discount. Last time he put a used mother board in the CP, and the computer went down; I was upset thinking it would be weeks before I could get another computer. The next day he calls me at work to let me know the computer was up.

It took him ten minutes to set up my financial software, with short cuts, icons and additional folders, and he flew through the security programming. My eye's couldn't keep up with the box's that were popping up. Just too funny.

I've had gateway and others, and I'm glad that I don't have to give my computer to some geek and wait for weeks for it to come back. In my business, I don't have the luxury of being down! And yes, my son refers to himself as a geek! lol

Wow! How old is your son?
I used to design as well, but the only thing I do now is use them and of course it is no problem for me to do the small work, but when it comes to needing a test bench etc, I just don't have access anymore.
I was in electronics engineering and working my way through robotics when I just got burned out six months before finishing. I have not even had the desire to go back.
I am more interested in the arts, but I do see the artistic side of design and building too. It is just that I prefer doing photography, video and editing and my stand up comedy much more. It is always interesting to me.
Sounds like your son is going to be very successful one day.
My parents were not to happy about me wasting my degree, but I feel like at least I have one to fall back on and also the knowledge I need for, as they call it, "a real job."
I have a short story to tell...
They just about freaked out when I told them that I was doing stand up comedy, they would never come to see me do a show. Finally I told them that soon they will have to pay to see me and they laughed. Then when my picture and name were in the paper as one of the comedians at the comedy club they decided to come see a show. They asked me to get them some tickets and I said, you laughed at me when I told you that you would have to pat to see me, if you want to come to the show you will have to stand in line and buy a ticket like everyone else. They did just that even though they new I could get them a ticket. They have never laughed at me since except when they are supposed to. Lol.
They have since seen me on tv, cable of course, in the paper, heard me on the radio, and have even brought friends and co-workers to see me at the clubs.
Ok I ramble so much sorry,
Hugs,
Laurie

My son is 18. I have been criticized by many people for letting him play video games, and play on his computer. I have to say, I think it's what he does best and it's his future. He wants to be a Navy Seal someday, and I can see him hacking into a computer site for MI. That's Military Intelligence for the non veterans.

That's cool that you have that degree to fall back on. Our parents can be so funny. My dad was against me joining ROTC, and yet became so proud when my picture was in the paper. They did come to my graduation at FT. Rucker. My dad said, I was there to catch you when you fell off the unicycle, but I won't catch you if you crash this thing. :)

You should have had my parents. They wanted me to take the scholarship for the Barnum and Baily Clown school. I turned it down. Although, I always wanted to be a comedian myself. The closest I've been is clowning. I have a great skit about dating. My friends were ROLF the other night. My fathers favorite comedian was George Carlin, and he would sit for hours watching him. Mine of course was Red Skelton.

Here's a funny story for you.

We were supposed to be writing a paper in one of my military schools, at the Aviation Advance Course, in small group instruction, SGI. While my class mates worked on their papers all night, I spent only two minutes on mine. I wrote out the outline, and then traced both my hands on the paper. I signed the bottom of the page, for Marcel Marceau, by Captain D. Risky, but it paid off. You must be careful about plagiarism! ;) The instructor loved it and gave me an A! He said he was posting it on the wall in his office, bet he still has it?

I love your paper! Very funny and very smart.
Yeah, your parents would have appreciated me and mine you. Perhaps we were accidently switched.
I believe you need to encourage your childrens interests. Even gaming has it's work fields these days.
Navy Seal would be awesome though! Best of luck to him on that!
Hugs,
Laurie
