Bush said what?
| Sun, 01-23-2005 - 10:41am |
I was drifting off to sleep watching a Bush inaugural speech, of course...Then he said something at the end that perked my ears.....Did he say "Liberty for all Americans"?
He is such a liar! How can he stand there and say all Americans, when he is soon going to exclude us by changing the constitution. Are we not Americans as well? I believe he should have said "Liberty for all Americans homosexual exceptions apply". Or maybe "Liberty for all non-homosexual Americans". Does anyone out there in straight land not get what he is going to do?
Did any one else listen to his speech, who was not falling asleep? Totally dismayed!

Straight people do not go around like that in public. Like Cat said, there is a time and a place for that and it should not be anybody's business to say who can or cannot do what they want in private with each other.

Hello Ellie:
First I want to say thank you for speaking out. :) Our world would be dull if we all shared the same views. I would like to go on record for you to say this:
I'm not saying that these types of people are wrong dressing the way they do in the parades. Unfortunately, they are in the public eye. They do not represent the whole gay community. Not every one who is gay, feels like dropping and exposing their body parts to the world, nor should they have to jump on the band wagon of the sexually free. We want to have a parade/demonstration March, that will be taken serious by the world, and that is not being quiet about our sexuality.
As far as straight people putting it in your face about their heterosexual tendencies; I don't see where that compares to lude public behavior gay or straight... We have gay bars, some maybe more than others, that allow that type of behavior and dress to go on. The gay people who don't want to dress normal, act normal, and want to act out sexually and openly. Let those people go down the middle of their own street, and flaunt it to their neighbors. This is America and they are free to do that, to an extent. What is normal, is in the eye of the beholder; I think we can all agree on that.
Right now, is the time, to think of the gay community as a whole. There is a lot of work that needs to be done in order for us to be totally free in America. Splitting hairs about whether were free to be who we are; is a mute point. We can have those kinds of Marches until hell freezes over. They are not effective in changing governmental policies. That is, that should be the focus of the gay community in America. We can party after the war is over, and I will stand on the side line and watch you have fun.
There are heterosexual people in our country that need and can be persuaded to help us change these policies. We will be able to change public opinion, just as Martin Luther King was able to do so during the Civil Rights movement. If you really study this man, you will see that his vocabulary was well above that of the people he was speaking too. He dressed in a business suit, he was professional, and he spoke out for his people and many Americans were changed by him. My own father, was a racist, and told steel mill jokes daily; he was so impressed by Martin Luther Kings demeanor, that he made me sit down to watch his speech, and referred to him as the greatest man in American history. If Martin Luther King had dressed himself and behaved as we do in the parades; I would say that the civil rights movement would probably be still here, just like we are still fighting for our rights. Additionally, if he had dressed and behaved that way, his following would not have been so great even with his own people. Thus the point that we are trying to make here.

Just the other day I was speaking with my brother, Mr. Politic himself. He loves Bush and although he falls into the center on alot of issues, he voted against Gay/Lesbian marriages. I'm in the process of coming out as we speak. Telling him was a huge step because I already knew how he felt about such issues. To my surprise, he was very accepting and compassionate toward me and my confession. What really amazed me was when he slipped it under his breath and said, wow, if I would have known that my sister was a lesbian my vote would have been different. Suddenly his heart was crying out to me because he knows that I will not have the same rights as a human. It's truely sad that these issues are in the hands of individuals that do not have such concerns hitting home. Can you imagine if one of Bush's daughters were to enroll in the army? It's just mind buggling to think how easy a belief can be changed, and how many lives could be set free, if only the issues were to personally effect the people in charge.
Hi Ready!

Check out my
Kim,
I am so with you on that! Yes I will go to that site. I hate to say this, but, I really do think that Nazi-ism is close at hand. What really concerns me is the Christian movement. I'm a very religious person, however, I don't believe our country should fall into the hands of one religious sect. I truly believe that were dealing with the KKK, they're just not wearing their hoods.

Hi R2L:
Welcome to the board.
"To my surprise, he was very accepting and compassionate toward me and my confession. What really amazed me was when he slipped it under his breath and said, wow, if I would have known that my sister was a lesbian my vote would have been different".
How funny these moments truly are. This summer I was walking with my dear friend, and a flyer was handed to us from the Make Love Legal Organization. She asked me why I was so upset about the marriage affirmation act? She had no idea that VA was in the process of voting the act in to effect. She also didn't know why GOV Warners office and the general counsel kept the act a secret? She had no idea! Most heterosexual are in the same boat. I would say, that we need to come out of our closets with our closest friends and family members. If it wasn't for our friendship, she would never have understood our plight.
What I don't agree with, is several male homosexuals, were adamant about everyone coming out at the work place. Not all companies, and or bosses are accepting homosexual employees, nor do they have sexual orientation in their EEO policies. I would love to come out at work, only if he/they are willing to put up the funds for my rent and food for my children. There is no doubt that I would be released. I friend of mine lost her job working for the same company as I, and she's very much out. She told me to watch my back, and stay where I was. Life is never cut and dry.
Thanks for posting. Stay in touch on the baords here. You will find that all the women here are loving and wise....

I will prbably go over to the board you suggested a bit later and post there. I want to have my thoughts together.
How do we convine people that what we do is as natural to us as what they do behind closed doors and that it does not make us any more less of a citizen then they are?
It is so hard to get them to think of us as natural.
Good post my friend!
