The good news and the bad news....

Hi ladies. Just wanted to share the latest with me.
First my good news: I found a job! Yay! I used to teach kindergarten when I lived in Florida, but have been an at-home mom for almost 9 years now. Of course, going through a divorce has meant getting back into the work force. I got my temporary teaching certification for CT and have been interviewing, but there really aren't many teaching jobs available this time of year. All I've found are part-time teacher's aide positions. Then about a week ago I got a call from a nearby town about interviewing for a couple positions. Long story short, I will be starting out as a part-time teacher's aide, but I will spend part of the time shadowing the school's reading consultant. The woman is leaving in March (moving) and they want me to take over her position as reading consultant when she leaves! I am so excited! It's a great first step, getting back into the school system. I liked the principal a lot, felt very comfortable with her at the interview, and she even commented that she wished she had an open teaching position to offer me right now. So perhaps I'll be able to move into a teaching job in the school this fall. I feel very hopeful. I do have to go through the formality of meeting with the superintendent of schools this Monday, but unless I really blow that, I have the job. And I'll be starting this Tuesday!
Now the bad news: I wrecked my car last night. Not totaled, but majorly damaged. My girlfriend and I went to dinner at some friends' house. When we left it was around midnight and pitch black out (we live in a rural town; no street lights). I slowly backed out of their driveway, and when I got to the top of the driveway, I tapped the accelerator but didn't turn the wheel enough...and I backed into the fire hydrant across the street!! Ack! I drive a minivan (which I've always hated) and the whole back bumper shattered. The rear door is dented in and has a 2-3" hole in it where the fire hydrant punctured straight through to the metal. How embarrassing. This dumb car is only worth maybe $3000 and I bet repairs are going to cost close to that. Ugh. What a dope I am. Whatever happened to well-built cars? It is unreal to me how much damage can occur when I was going no more than 5 mph! Geez Louise.
Anyway, that's my news. Thanks for letting me share. Have a great day and watch out for fire hydrants!
Jules

Well lets start with Congratulations on the Job!!

Congrats!!! I am a former teacher too (now stay at home) and I know how stressful it can be to look for a job. Reading consultant sounds like fun!
As for the car... ours died last w/end, so I know how you feel. We ended up getting a new one, luckily. Good luck!!
Hey! Congratulations on the job! Way to go! You mentioined FL in your post. I would so love to live in FL. Dreaming of FL on such a mild day in NC. :)
Those freak accidents! Sorry about the damage to your minivan. I drive a small sedan. Last September, someone ( I still don't know who did it) hit my car while it was parked. The damage was to the rear. I stopped driving it because each time I made a turn, the rear end sounded like it was going to fall off. My insurance company wrote it up as a hit and run. The car was in the shop for almost a month. I lacked a 1 or 2 days from it being a month. For an entire month, I drove a 2005 Dodge Magnum. I'm not accustom to driving large cars. I began to like the fact that I could see over other cars. LOL So, I lost my want for a VW Beetle. My new obession is a Honda Element. :) The repair costs were some odd dollars over $2,900. I was surprised the insurance company didn't total the car since Kelly Blue Book rates my trade in at $4,000. But, each insurance company is different.
If it were me, I would take it by a shop you trust, and have them to check underneath to make sure nothing is rubbing or coming loose. You can never be too safe- you know!
You are right, cars nowdays aren't built tough like they once were.
Hugs,
buggie
We have 2 cars and a mini van for taking the dogs in. It is pretty much dead now though.
You could take it to a shop for repairs but, I doubt it is worth it. Maybe you can trade it in on a used car. They usually take about anything.
Anytime I drive my mini van people cut me off all the time.
But in my red celica I am the queen of the road! Lol!
Congrats! On the reading consultant job, sounds like they will move you to a teaching position at some point should the opening come up.
Take care! And remember the brake is on the left! (or your other left)
Don't drive too fast, I'd hate to see you get sucked out the back hole... Lol.
Hugs,
Laurie

Yeay Jules! Congrats on the new position! I am sure you will do great, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya on a teaching position as well!
Uggggggh on the fender bender! At least noone was hurt. (((((hugs))))), even though I know that doesn't help much.
Awesome news about the job, Jules! Sounds like the perfect opportunity. Sorry about your minivan. I drive one too, and I hate backing up or parking. I used to drive a little '97 Honda Civic sedan and could zip around in that with no problem. Good luck with the repairs.
Keep us posted on the job situation. Hugs!
