Last night I took Caly to the ballet. Our university sponsors a cultural events series every year and this year I got tickets to all of the dance performances. She had never been to a ballet, so we went to see "Giselle" performed by the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre of Russia.

I grew up seeing Broadway Musicals since I lived about 40 miles north of NYC.

I LOVE the Nutcracker! It's one of my favorites, and I think I could hum most of the music by heart! I took ballet as a kid and was in the Nutcracker several years in a row. We got to perform it with the Atlanta Ballet one time, and I will never forget that.

Caly and I will definitely check out the theatre productions here too. They're supposed to be awesome!

You should definitely try to see more ballets. There was only one ballet performance on the schedule. Caroline and I saw performances by two Russian folk dance companies. Those were phenomenal! We also saw Ballet Hispanico from NYC, which included a little bit of everything (salsa, modern, etc.). I don't think I've ever seen Romeo and Juliet but would love to. And I definitely want to see opera sometime. I've never been, but it's on my list.

I just love doing this kind of thing and have gotten away from it the past decade. One of the things that's most important to me is instilling an appreciation for the arts in my girls and they are getting old enough now to start going to performances.

Laurie,

Jess loves the Nut Cracker ballet! I think she really enjoyed buying a special long dress to attend! BTW, you were right about Jess. She came home today and told me that a girl hit on her. It's Abby, the one that John has had a crush on for three years! His heart will be broken if they start to date! Any suggestions now would be greatly appreciated! lol

Oh and by the way, I didn't wig out! I stayed cool and made no big deal out of it. I can't believe Abby is hitting on John's sister! What is she trying to do, kill the poor boy? Leave it to my son to fall in love with a lesbian! Sheesh, Now my baby girl has fallen for the same lesbian too? lol I'm going to write a new soap comedy about this. What shall we call it?

OMG what do I do now! I know.....Punt
Perhaps you can post this as a topic for discussion....

Go Jess!
Sorry John :(
Poor John.
I have to hear more about Abby. Jess will probably IM me later I hope.
Thanks for not freaking out on her!
Will you be going out with Kelly this weekend? She is trying so hard!
We are going to stay home for my b-day and make chile and have people over to watch the live horse racing and simalcasting from here, we bet on our account on line. Mom and step Dad will be coming over too. They are bringing a cake. I hope they leave the candles behind.
This way we can still gamble, but with all the comforts of home. We will print all the programs and handi capping tools tonight. I win more on the horses than the river boats.
Talk to you later. Hi to Jess and John.

Laurie,

This place I call home seems so peaceful tonight. Thanks for the advice about Jess today! She has been the calmest child I have seen for a long time. The house is clean and in order, love is in the air tonight. Amazingly enough, the love and peace is there between the two of them. No mean words like siblings do. You know the thing about me worrying if she will ever have children? I'm not worried anymore, Lesbians have children anyway if they really want a family! Jess will make a great mom, and John a great dad! All in time. I just want them to be happy with who they are.....
