Couples, regardless of sexual orientation, should have entree to legal marriage when they uphold the "responsibilities and sacrifices of marriage." You can't have it both ways in a democratic society were everyone is supposed to have equal protection under the law.

VERY good points, Kim. I wasn't really thinking about that yesterday when I answered Laurie's Thursday post. We can't make any assumptions about legal matters between us and our partners, unfortunately.

HB751, sounds like a hostile and spiteful prejudicial way to say, we won't respect or allow anything that might allow queers to make any decisions for each other.
Sheila and I are looking into a way to make everything legal by talking to a lawyer and making our arrangements that way. The has to be some way to make it legal or to make a legal and binding contract.
We have even talked about her becoming my legal guardian because she pays more of the bills and I am on dissability.
There has to be a way to get out from under these prejudice people.
And Kim, you are so right about the people who have families that dissown them for being gay. They would just love to do everything against the couples wishes I am sure. It reminds me of the movie, If These Walls Could Talk II, when the elderly lady or the couple died and the family came in a took everything and acted like the partner had really nothing to do with anything.
We put everything in both our names as if we were business partners. Car titles, mortgage etc.
We even have each other as beneficiaries on our life insurance. I would hope no one could change that!
There is a female couple in my V.A. group that one of the women legally had her last name changed to the other one's last name. Not sure if it helps legally with anything, but they enjoy sharing a last name.
Thanks for posting Kim.

Amazing how the country that calls itself the 'land of the free' can epitomise such hypocrisy, eh?

I can only thank God that things are finally changing here in the UK. Civil Unions become law on 5th December this year. I think you gals should move here and we'll set up a commune.

You are right Lou, you would think that the US would be paving the way for civil unions and gay marriage.
