Didn't you ever just want to tell a bully off?
Today I was being waited on by a nice older gentleman at an office store, and two people walked in the door and up to the counter where I stood. The first one was a male and he looked around impatiently for another associate. The other counter had two associates waiting on customers. The second person an old lady, rudely interrupts the kind gentleman waiting on me, and angrily say's isn't there anyone around here who can wait on us? She acted like he wasn't doing his job!
I'm thinking, da-gumby you just waltz your TOS in here and want to be waited on? Where do these people come from? Haven't they ever been taught to wait their turn! So, I'm going to defend the nice man and I looked right at her and said, "mame, he's waiting on me". (What if he sends my fax to the wrong number fooling with her?) She snaps at me about not wanting to wait in line, and "I have an order". Normally I shut my mouth and say nothing; but this was my one chance, my one chance to right the world for everyone who ever worked in retail and had to deal with rude customers who complain because they have to stand in a line! I said, "you know what?, too bad, I was here before you and your going to have to wait! She snaps "listen lady" and looks at me, then turns quickly around and shuts her mouth. I'm saying "what" to her as she turns around. I'm ready to go toe to toe with her! It felt so good! When she left the nice man smiles at me and says thank you, I get really rude people in here. We finished my order laughing and feeling good.
It really does erk me when people feel the world owes them, and they come first. Big bullies that's all! I didn't want to be mean, but geesh....
Have you ever wanted to set someone straight? If you did, what was your moment of glory?

Yep, I've wanted to do that before. I can't think of an instance when I have lately, but it really bugs me when people think salesclerks are there to fulfill their every need no matter what. Good for you for speaking up!

Good for you, Halo!! I usually offer sympathy to salespeople when I've seen them being mistreated by another customer, but I would love to have the nerve to stand up to the bully as it's happening. Maybe the next time I'm in a situation like that, I'll think of you and speak up.

You know Jules I think I'm coming into my old age now.lol I just refuse to be bullied anymore. I'm so tired of these people that think the world owes them! I have been in the retail environment for 1 1/2 years now, and even though I grew up in my step mom's grocery store, I'm so shocked at the mentality of the everyday Jo's. I think I should write a book of etiquette for shopping! Maybe Laurie can help me put in an comedic editorial.
Just be careful when you do speak up, and make sure others are in agreement with you. Don't want to see you get hurt! This lady looked like she wanted to whack me at first! lol I stepped back a few steps before I started the conversation, who knows what she had in her handbag; back in the old days, it might have been a big slab of bologna!
