Swallowing my conservative pride!

Thanks to Laurie, I took an important step for my daughter. I swallowed my conservative pride, and found counselors who can help her. My Daughter is a healthy happy 16 year old, who at times becomes depressed. I have never spoke of the difficulties she sometimes has. She is such a wonderful child/almost adult, and it makes me sad when she gets down on herself. Laurie helped me identify a problem from my DD's past, and that has helped me deal with her moments. Since our discussion, we have been tighter than ever, and I initiated steps to get the help she needs.

I spoke with her school counselor, and she told me that the schools psychologist will call me. Last week she did call, and we discussed my daughters problems. After agreeing that we needed outside assistance, I then swallowed my conservative pride, and outed my self, and my daughter. I asked her to find a list of gay friendly counselors. I told her I didn't want to work with a counselor who would pass judgement, or have an under riding issue about our life styles. She called today with a list of names, and soon my daughter will be in good hands.

As far as my conservative pride goes; I'm a bit old school, and I don't wave banners or have rainbow flags hanging from my porch. Someday I might, but for now, I enjoy anonymity...But, when important moments like this, come up, I decide for the better! I get rid of that conservative pride, and come out of the gate strong, without hesitation or reservation.

Thank you Laurie for your help!

Good for you! I hope your DD will benefit from the experience. It's wonderful that you two are close enough to be able to talk so well about things.

Halo,

You did what was best for her. With the backing from you (strong mom!!!) She'll make it through anything. Just stick by her and show her that motherly love. Everything will work it's self out (it may be hard work ahead but it will be worth it to see a smile back on your daughter's face all the time).

LOL,
Angel

My sentiments echo all the other replies halo. We do anything for our children, that's all part of being a good mother.
