I got a phone call on Friday to tell me my gallstone operation is scheduled for Thursday 14th July- I went to the hospital for my pre-op assessment and did the grand tour- up to Cardiology for an ECG (apparently I have arrhythmia with a variation of 12% which is regarded as ok), down to the laboratory for a blood test, further down to radiology for a chest xray... havent heard anything back from any of the other results, I think its all precautionary because I have to use a preventative inhaler for asthma.
I am nervous about the thought of being knocked out because I was conscious for my last op- I had it under epidural but I am more annoyed with Natalie because her first reaction was oh, I cant be there, I have no car and no one to look after the kids. I know her mother would if she just asked! She phoned her today to tell her I was having the op and talked for hours about everything but!
I dont have anyone else here- so it looks like I will be on my own :-(
Oh well, I am sure I will live. Wish me luck.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww that's terrible! I will never understand people like that....
When I went in for my exploratory surgery, they removed my appendix and sent me home while still under the influence of the anesthesia! Thank god my gf and our friends were there for me. They literally had to drag me into the house, feet dragging through the stones, plopped me down in a chair and my mom cried all day and night, I kept passing out on her and dad! Of course everyone left cuz they had to get back to their work schedules. lol Having my friends at the hospital before I went under was fun we kept laughing about everything and then poof I was gonzo.........
Best of luck on your operation and I can say that all of us will be by your side even if only in spirit!

Oh ((((VEN)))) if I could I would buy a plane ticket and be there. I am puzzled by Nat's attitude. If my s/o were going through something like this, wild horses would not keep me away. I do hope that she has a change of heart. Could you at least tell her that you really need her there?
Oh well. Know that we will be thinking of ya! We will also be waiting for an update.
(((((((((((Ven)))))))))))
I had gall bladder surgery a year and a half ago. I really hope you can find someone to be there to take you home. You will likely be in pain, groggy, and possibly nauseous when it's done and you wake up. Maybe you could explain that again to Nat.
As for the surgery itself, it really isn't bad. The first 8 hours after were the worst for me. Each day the pain lessened. I can pretty much eat anything now without having any pain.
Take care and keep us posted!
Consider yourself lucky to be able to schedule it!
Well Hon.. You may be alone physically.. but spiritually you will have all of us here thinking
C >^. A .
Thanks Halo- that means a lot to know everyone is there in spirit, better than being alone!
They will keep me in overnight considering I havent had anaesthetic before, and they will make sure I am ok before I go home.
I was with Natalie when she had her surgery about 3 months ago. We laughed about her gown and her hat and the undies that tie up at the side- I was still there when she came back from theatre and her surgery took 6 hours.
How long did it take to recover from your surgery? Was that keyhole surgery or did they leave you a big scar?
thanks Sadie- that would make a good meet and greet huh? If I won the lotto I could send everyone a ticket and hey, you could probably all take away a gallstone as a souvenir -apparently I have a few of them!
I think there is a bit more to Nat's decision, there has been a lot going on in her life involving her children and they kind of have to come first. I still hope she will be there for me because I need her and we can worry about her other stuff later. I will get her to email someone and let you all know how things went, though I am sure it will all be fine.
Heya Ting! I am really looking forward to the pretty much eating anything without pain thing, that is the only reason I'm not gonna chicken out, lol. The silly thing has played up most of the time since last September.
Compared to the surgery Nat had (circumferential abdomnioplasty) mine is very minor. They tell me its the gas they fill you up with that is the most uncomfortable part.
