More on shopping...

At lunch today I stopped by Target to pick up some necessities and decided to browse through the summer stuff. DDs, Caly, and I are going to Hilton Head with my parents next week, and I wanted to see if they had any bathing suits for the girls on sale. I did find what I was looking for, although almost all of the toddler suits were gone. Two weeks ago, the store was stocked to the brim with them.

All of the other summer stuff (seasonal items like tablecloths, dinnerware, etc.) was practically gone. It was all there a week ago, and it looked like a tornado had come through and wiped it all out. The leftovers were banished to a shelf in the back of the store.

I didn't need any of this, but I was reminded of the common practice these days for most businesses like this to clear out their summer stuff at the beginning of July and start stocking fall/winter clothes and school supplies. I actually heard an employee tell a customer that they would begin stocking school supplies on Sunday. Last year, DD2 needed some gloves after Christmas and I swear I looked everywhere. I finally found at pair at Wal-Green's of all places. God forbid I need anymore summer items before August. This royally ticks me off sometimes.

OK, rant over.

Oooooooh I'll add to this rant!

How overcommercialized are the holidays? Okay, they start selling Valentines stuff the beginning of January, Easter stuff on February 15th, Halloween stuff Sept 1st, Christmas stuff Nov 1st (totally skipping Thanksgiving)...And I am sure the kiddos appreciate seeing the "BACK TO SCHOOL!" adds only two days into thier Summer vacations - not.
