A het's definition of "gay lifestyle"

This is from the Politics Today message board...

I must admit, that I don't quite "get" that lifestyle thing as an identifying factor....however being straight (and relatively unwordly in some regards) qualifies me to offer a theory. >smirk<

First off, this comes from a fautly premise that homosexuals are a homogenous group...Hmmmm, 2 "homo"s....let's make this better...homo-sapiens.....3..3 homos! BWAA HA Ha! *lightning and thunder*

Seriously, within any group of people, there are various "lifestyles". I think that if you look at the typical image that pops to mind, whenever someone says "gay lifestyle", it is most likely (correct me if I'm wrong) male homosexuals seeking and/or having frequent non-commital sex. First, some people have to get over a certain "ick" factor because it is a drive that totally eludes their imagination (though homosexuality occurs naturally, throughout history and the world, in both human and animal populations). Do animals have lifestyles?

Second, for some people there is a religious factor (for the sake of brevity - Ha! Like that would ever happen...I don't want to debate this side of the issue right now ;o).

Third, let's face it, a large percentage of all men are horndogs (in that, I mean verrry interested in getting their rocks off). You can go to any straight bar and see that behaviour in dozens and dozens of striaght men....on the prowl, looking for uncommited sex. They wish and strive to attain this pleasure as many times as possible. A lot of them do.

This is only one side of homosexual behaviour, as it is one side of heterosexual behaviour. Dare I say it, human behaviour.

But then what happens to the straight horndogs (many of whom never quite overcome their horndog leanings)? Well, the straight guys start to pair off. Society supports it, expects it, and encourages it. It is definately a direction to aspire to. There are committed homosexual pairings as well as the drive for love and security is a human trait after all....Those engaged in it are living a certain "lifestyle" too.

In both groups, it clearly is different from the "lifestyle" consisting of frequent uncommitted sex, or its quest. Generally, both groups tend to go to work, pay their taxes etc...In truth, the gay couple's "lifestyle" bears a closer resemblance to that of straight married couples than it does to the activities of some gay, rootless guys-being-guys, cruising the bars.

I'm not terribly sure what people imagine when they think of the gay woman's "lifestyle". Perhaps a proclivity for sensible shoes and a disdain for make-up. But then, walk down any busy street and I can guarantee you that you can't get too far without encountering a straight woman with such shoes and no make-up. ;o) I suppose that their "lifestyle" includes sensible shoe shopping and running one's fingers through one's hair before dashing out the door.

Maybe, just maybe, excluding homosexuals from the right and opportunity to choose marriage as a recognized and accepted option, is feeding the "gay lifestyle"...at least, actively encouraging a rootless existance. It certainly will do nothing to prevent or even reduce homosexuality.

Hmmmmmmmm, this is one of those not sure how to take it kind of things.
It is loaded with typical heterosexual rhetoric and pure ignorance and yet it makes a case, in an ignorant way for gay marriage.
A bit stereotypical yet correct for many, we do love our sensible shoes don't we. And although I like to wear make up, I sure don't mind rushing out of the house without it either.
As far as the guys being horndogs, well, I will leave that up to the guys to speak to since that is a very stereo typical thing towards them too. The writer covers that on both sides of the fence or teams or lifestyles so I see he/she is equaly bigoted in that case.
Very interesting.
I doubt that everyone on this planet will ever understand our "lifestyle." Not that there is anything wrong with that as long as they accept it in the same way we must accept their heterosexual "lifestyle." Which, I for one have never understood. (Other than for breeding purposes.)
Thanks for posting Kim.

Laurie

"Let's face it, a large percentage of all men are horndogs(in that I mean, verrry interested in getting their rocks off)" Well, I think that should also apply to some women.

Well, I think this particular statement applies to me!LOL! But, as I've have "mellowed", (yeah, right!). My libido has sort of lessened, (Uh huh, sure, if anything, it's gotten worse) LOL!

Thanks Kim, it's nice to see you and Courtney posting every now and again.

Hugs to the both of you!

Hugs,

Sebastian

Oh nooooooo, no offesnse taken. Like I said, it covers the stereo typical things that are so true. Like the shoes. Just not sure if the writer is laughing with us or at us. Either way, i did not mean to come across as offended.
Sometimes things don't translate on the pages the same as they do in person.

I really liked this post. I think questioning what "lifestyle" really means is critical to the debate on equality.
