Me again - hoping for some advice

I know that I post a lot on here, so I hope that everyone isn't getting sick of me, but I'm having yet another lonely night. I don't know why I'm so depressed. I know that I should journal more, but sometimes when I get really depressed, I have trouble writing. I probably sleep too much, but I get really tired if I don't, and I think that it helps me function better. I'm sometimes outgoing, but most of the time, I'm an introvert, and sometimes social situations take a lot out of me. I have to work from 9-5 behind the desk tomorrow, and I usually have to deal with a lot of people and take a lot of phone calls, but I know I'll be exhausted when I get home. I'm starting to ramble, but I guess my question is - what do you do when you are depressed or feeling out of it to make yourself feel better? Is there anything that I can tell myself to make myself feel better or anything that I can do to forget about what I'm feeling? Thanks!

Hey pinkstar, It's ok to come here an rant, rave, express how you feel, and maybe if you need to cry. I do enjoy having our evening IM conversations. I don't know if you remember my recent bout of severe depression, but I called Crisis Intervention, and the other person on the other end of the phone, was really helpful, even though I wasnt' very cooperative.

Even though there is a depression board, in iVillage, we'd like to be there for you, also. I find it helpful, if I lighten up, and laugh at myself every once in a while, it helps to relieve some of the stress, and trying to find something that I like to do, ie. a hobby, or something to take my mind off of my issues for a little while, helps me a while lot. Of course, there's exercise, and meditation, that could help out in. I like being around people, but after a while, I like being on my own. Sometimes, I have to balance it out. I hope that helps out a bit.

Hugs!

Sebastian

Thanks for all of the great advice! I especially love your suggestion to listen to kick butt type music. I think that would help to energize me, and it might make me actually feel like getting up and doing something, like taking a walk around town. Sometimes when I get really depressed, I have trouble motivating myself to go out and exercise or to go out in public. I also think that you are right that alcohol just tends to intensify the blues. Sometimes I do make the mistake of drinking when I'm upset, and I usually just end up getting more upset, so I agree with you totally on that.

Thanks again for all of the great suggestions!! I definitely appreciate them and will try them. I'll keep you posted on how everything goes.

Thanks! I remember when you were the CL of the depression board. I always thought you gave great advice and did a really good job. I do go to that board sometimes, and I have found it to be helpful, too.

Thanks! I like to write poetry sometimes, too. I should do more of it. I've really been slacking off on writing this summer. I guess it's because I do it so much at college since I'm a writing major. *haha* It's funny because whenever classes are in session I wish that I had more time to write for fun!

I hope that you are having a great day!!

Thanks! I really enjoy our evening IM conversations, too. You are a lot of fun to talk to. I didn't know about your recent severe bout of depression, though. I'm so sorry to hear about that. I'm always here to listen if you ever want to talk to me about it, though. I think that you are right that having a good sense of humor helps to quell depression and hobbies and exercise also help. I've never really tried meditation. I mostly just sleep instead when I get really depressed. *haha*

Anyway, thanks for replying to me. I really appreciate all of the great advice that you have given me. I'm going to go have dinner with my parents now, but I'll talk to you again soon!
