Melissa E....good for the soul

Do any of you have a singer/band, book, etc. that you listen to or read over and over when you need to feed your soul?

For me, it's Melissa Etheridge. I remember over two years ago being in a very, very dark place and so many of her songs spoke to me. Some expressed the same feelings I had at the time and others inspired me. I listened to ALL of her songs over and over and eventually bought/burned on CD all of her albums. I went to her concert a year and a half ago. Several of her songs have very special meanings for me and Caly and always will. Finally, I had my fill and stopped listening for a while. But, every now and then I have to have my "Melissa Fix". LOL

I'm having one now! I'm not listening to her because I'm down this time; I'm listening because the familiar sound of her voice is refreshing, like visiting an old friend for the first time in a long time.

OK, I'll stop rambling! Just wanted to share.

I've always listened to the male bands of the 80's. I like Journey, and I think Barbara Striesand to pretty deep also.

Thanks for sharing that.

Me!

I listened to her CD lucky on the way home last night! There are several; songs that I just have to listen to over and over again. She has always been that way to me since I first was introduced to her music when I was in Kansas! When I returned to Germany my husband asked me who she was and if I had to play her so much? lol She became my inspiration and I quickly realized that I was never going to change who I was. She was not of course the reason I divorced! She just touched my heart and soul and made me realize how much intimacy I was missing in my life!

BTW I have other artists that send me to! Mostly Mandy Shaw, Ashland Miller, and Andy Moore, I love their writing and singing styles. Their guitar playing skills will knock your socks off. I recently met Laura Cerulli too, another great artist!

Good question Ting.

None of y'all will prolly know of this group, but in high school I went through a serious goth phase. During this time, I purchased a tape released by "The Church". The album was awesome, very mellow underground goth - not on mainstream radio. I continued listening to this tape over and over again, long after my goth days were over. Thier music is so mellow and haunting...But it finally got lost in one of my many moves, and eventually forgotten.

The other night while driving home, I happen to be channel surfing on the radio and low and behold I come across "Under the Milky Way" (I think that's the name of the song) on this new station. OMG! The memories it brought back! What was even more amazing is the fact that they were not mainstream (as I mentioned already). I could not believe I was hearing it on the radio after all these years! I turned it up and sang along (I still knew the words). I have been looking for this album in the stores ever since,

My all time favorite since the '70's is John Mellencamp. I just cannot get enough of his music.
I have other favorites too. But he is my all time favorite since I was a teenager. I like all the other typical female singers of rock out there too.
So, after John Mellencamp there would be to many to mention I think. He is very good driving music too.

Laurie

I grew up listening to John Denver--it's so funny that you say that! Every time I say I like John Denver people look at me strange. His songs just calm me down. (Not to mention that my dad plays the guitar and sings JD songs all of the time.)

Depending on my mood, I like Alanis Moriset (have been going through a break-up), Shawn Mullins, Train, etc.
