As it happens, I have known a number of people in my life who beat thyroid cancer.

I sure will. I just had the radioactive pills today, 4 of them. Tuesday, tomorrow I go back for the uptake and scan.

Thank you lesli. I have Mom to ease my nerves and Sheila who had breast cancer 3 years ago in her milk ducts. They removed all the ducts and Oh my, I just realized, that was three years ago as well as her cyst removed from her cervix that was a painful sloppy job because they thought it was a polyp and did not numb her. It was horrible. Well it has been 3 years since she has not wanted to have sex. Maybe, there is a connection here. There has to be. We never thought about it that way. Hmmmm.
Thank you for this post and all your support.
Hugs,
Laurie

Thank you ginny.
Now that I have learned so much about it I feel even more positive. It is just that 50/50 chance increase due to my Mom having the bad news, vs the 10% chance for people who have not had a parent with thyroid cancer. But I still have that it probably won't happen to me attitude about 90% of the time.
I will have some sort of an answer between Thursday and Monday.
I cannot wait until the waiting is over.
Hugs,
Laurie

Hi jo, and thank you. I am happy that your Mom did well. My Mom had thyroid cancer too and has been cancer free for 20 years now. Sheila had breast duct cancer 3 years ago and so far so good now. So either way, I feel much more at ease with hearing all the positive stories etc. It really helps to keep my spirits up and positive.
And having Mom and Sheila right here who have both been through some sort of cancers and recovering I feel very positive and very supported, even though I have not even had any bad news yet.
All of you on the board have been wonderful for lifting my spirits as well. I really have not had a real low or dark moment about it yet. I just keep telling myself this will be fine.
Thank you for the encouragement and sharing about your Mom.
Hugs,
Laurie

Lea, I had know idea. I feel pretty foolish for even worrying about it before I know anything for sure. I feel like I am putting the cart before the horse. I so far have been staying very positive with a few anxiety spells creeping up now and then.
What type of cancer did you have. Also, what do you mean by I have a choice?
If the tests tomorrow (Tuesday) look bad, I will be called in for a biopsy. If they do not look bad then, I think they will do the biopsy if/when they remove the nodule. I have found out that there are 4 types of thyroid cancer most very treatable if caught early or not spreading. Even if it spreads to the lymph nodes it still can be treatable. So, I am hoping it is nothing, but if it is something, I think and hope I will still be positive.
You and so many others sharing their survival stories and close calls really do help for a person like me who is pending tests and waiting and wondering what the outcome will be.
8 years is very good. Thank you for sharing your story and positive outcome so far. You have no idea how helpful it is to hear others share their experiences.
Hugs,
Laurie
