Out By Yourself

Hello everyone!! I hope you're all having a good friday/weekend :)

I was wondering how many of you have gone out by yourselves before.. to go dancing, to look for friends/girlfriends, etc.

I've never done it before and I get out of work so early on saturday night (early for me, lol, 8:45!) and was thinking of going to Diva's in Northampton, Mass (if you live near here LET ME KNOW, lol, might not have to go alone?).

I'm getting frustrated, so much so that I'm thinking of taking this HUGE step for me, I'm not normally a loner but I don't have many friends out this way.

Any tips? I'm not usually a club girl but I've recently lost lots of weight and am actually feeling kind of good about myself (for once!!!) and I'm just so sick of being alone!

Any encouraging notes would be helpful :) Have a great weekend!!!

Hi Amy! First off congrats on the self esteem boost. There is (almost) nothing better than looking in the mirror and liking what you see.

As far as going out alone? I guess it would depend on where you're going - ie., the bar's reputation, the regular patrons, etc. Normally I go to the les bar

Well, it's a LGBT dance club. I'm also interested in meeting friends, but I'm not really good in loud situations... But I do want to dance :) I haven't really looked for groups around here, do you have any suggestions on how to find some? Thanks :)

You could try Yahoo Groups within your area, you could also do a simple Google search like typing LGBT and the name of your area (or other little key words). Also you could look in the phone book and find a number to the local PFLAG (or FFLAG) groups, they could be a valuable resource in pointing you in the right direction.

I hear you on the dancing! I have been a dancer my entire life, and getting out on that floor really puts me in another world sometimes.

I hope this helps a little, maybe some of the others can provide some other info for you. Good luck with it, and keep us informed!

Well, I don't have any suggestions about where you can go in your town to meet people since I don't live there,

Hey, I'd be happy to tell you what I did :) I started by walking every day and then I progressed to joining a gym, spending a lot of time on the eliptical machine and the tread mill and the weight training. But before I joined the gym I lost about 40 pounds just walking every day and eating better. I didn't follow a 'diet' I just gave up all fast food and anything that had trans fat and I don't eat much meat, no dairy but only b/c I'm lactose intolerant, and only whole wheat bread. I just watch what I eat more... but the exercizing DEFINATELY made the big difference. It took lots of TIME tho. I was 195 about 5 years ago and now I'm down to 145ish. The last 10 pounds just came off from the gym so I'm super excited :) Good luck!! ~Amy

Hey thanks!! I would love to meet up with you and your partner sometime and go dancing :) I'm always looking for someone to go with, I'm not usually the kind of person who goes alone! I just tried on my outfit *giggles* and I like it, I hope someone there does too ;) I just practice-danced in front of the mirror, I'm a big dork!! But anyway, my email is rainstorms23@yahoo.com, let me know when you feel up to it, or I'll catch you on the board another time :) ~Amy

I'm so glad that you are feeling confident about yourself. I think that is absolutely wonderful. I also think that there is nothing wrong with going out by yourself to meet people. Since I got my driver's license this summer, I have loved going places by myself. I haven't really gone to any bars or night clubs because I'm in a really rural area both at college and at home. Before I could drive, one of my guy friends would take me to places and just turn me loose. It was a lot of fun. He would kind of watch me to make sure that no one hurt me, but he would let me talk to whomever I wanted and stuff.

I hope that you have fun tonight! I'm so jealous! I wish that I were going somewhere like that!
