Let us know if it affects you any.
These people are getting more desperate. No water, food, toilets, clothing, power, shelter, showers, sleep, etc. So many thousands coming your way. Some don't even have shoes!
The hospitals in such bad shape. The poor little babies...
I hope they do better once they get to Huston. But still they will not have money. They don't even know how to get them their checks and once they do they have no bank and some no I.D.'s.
This is such a mess! I feel like I want to do something to help.
I have had my T.V. on constantly.
Let us know what is being said about help etc. down there in your area.
This is just to sad.
Hugs,
Laurie

Well, as of right now we're pretty much still running as normal. Except for when I got to work this morning (I work in a small town about 45 minutes away) and all of the office girls were leaving. They told me that we had permission to leave and go fill up our tanks because the entire area where I work will be out of gas by this evening. One of the major gas chains in this county has already quit selling gas alltogether. So I turned around since I only had a quarter of a tank. I paid $2.89/gal and thought that was good considering some of the prices I've been hearing.

I was suppose to go to the Astrodome to volunteer last night, but ex husband was being "himself" and I had to straighten out a few issues with him. I may still go over there if I have time, but I do have a ton of stuff I could go through at the house and donate if nothing else. My roommate and I will probably do an entire search of the house this weekend (we need to bomb the place for critters anyway) and collect as much as we can.

I'll keep y'all updated on the situation out here if you like, but with all of the news crews and news helicopters running around I am sure the media is eating this up.

Thanks for the concern! Luv y'all!

This is all so surreal on some level. I felt like you yesterday, that things were totally going out of control. I was having a hard time imagining how New Orleans could ever be saved. But this morning I was listening to the radio (NPR) and they were talking to some financial experts who were saying that sometimes these kinds of natural disasters bring on a financial boom, that reconstruction jobs are created, etc. I don't understand a lot about economics at all, but I was given a bit of hope. It's possible that the city can return to normal (although it won't be the same kind of normal for sure) within a year. I also heard that Harrah's, the big casino corporation, will

I don't believe everything can get out of control. Maybe just one area until they get the armed forces in there. They will have things under control soon.
It can be rebuilt.
I am sure our country will take care of our own. I just wish it could move faster.
Those poor people having to suffer so badly.
I wonder why so many stayed when they could have evacuated. They are finding their way out now aren't they?
Plus they sent buses around to pick people up and take them to the dome before the hurricane started.
They were warned about the devastation and given many oppertunities to evacuate.
I think they here on the news so many times about how bad it will be only to find it is really nothing like what they had predicted.
But this time, wow!

Laurie

I also heard that some gas stations are out of regular unleaded, so you have to buy plus or premium. I don't think I've ever paid this much for gas, and I'm already strapped for cash.

Yes, I heard that they will be hiring people to help with reconstruction.
I believe the control will be handled soon.
I cannot believe the people who are going around shooting guns though. What the TOS is wrong with them?!
As far as gas goes, we have only been using one car and doing all errands at one time. Mostly Sheila just goes back and fourth to work which is only about 5 mins. from here.
The other car has gas and we will use it for emergencies only.
I just don't understand why they cannot be dropping water and food to people from helocoptors to hold them over until they can be rescued and moved.
The scarey thing is, it is just the beginning of hurricane season.
It is a real mess right now, but I feel secure that things will be resolved eventually.
We have the Military, and FEMA, Red Cross, etc.
Anyone notice that no other countries have offered any aid?
They certainly expect us to be right there for them.
I think we have saved enough of the world for now and should focus more on saving our own.
Hugs,
Laurie
