Hey, everyone! At least everyone reading this. *L* *wave*

There's been heated discussion about this site lately. Heard it on "One in Ten" (gay talk radio) this past sunday and read it in Baywindow (gay newspaper) and a local newspaper.
In case you don't know; someone built this site "KnowThyNeighbor.org" to "out" anyone that signed the petition to deny civil marriage rights to same sex couples in MA. They list people's names and addresses on the site so anyone can go and see who is homophobic/against letting us keep our marriage rights.

Do you think this is a good idea?
Do you think this is the "low road" like the antics some people that hate us do to some of us and we shouldn't go down this road?
Do you think this will "win" friends to our cause?
What do you think should be an alternative if not this?

I might not have a chance to response to all that reply to my questions. I might not respond to all replies. That does not mean I don't read them. I am throwing this out just to see the opinions on this board. I'm pretty sure we all have something to say on this subject. I hope your thoughts on this subject will prompt you to sign on and have your say. :-)

I think it's good. People shouldn't be able to hide behind the electoral process. I want to know who I work with and live near is voting to take away my rights and make me a second class citizen.

Waves to eastie and heads west to post... um, south. I don't do directions.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Um... depends. Outing is not a favourite strategy of mine... but in this case, with this petition, they placed their name on public documents. Still... it is bound to tick off, and is ticking off a wise policy? My personal answer is probably not.

Do you think this is the "low road" like the antics some people that hate us do to some of us and we shouldn't go down this road?

Yes... we make our point, and lose ground. Unfortunately, we have to smiel our way into acceptance at times. This does not mean roll over with arms and legs in the air... um, don't go there, eastie...

I've had one coworker comment to another "how does it feel working with "it?" The other shared this with me, and I laughed. First of all, it is an agency that would likely suspend this person the first time such a comment were made and verified... second time, see ya. Yet I know it is said out of ignorance, of not knowing. I represent this community, both the dyke one and the trannie one, and my actions do ultimately reflect back on the rest of us.

Do you think this will "win" friends to our cause?

No, it will simply make a point that at best lets us wink and nod and slap each other's backs.

What do you think should be an alternative if not this?

Education, education, education. Treat others with respect, even as you disagree with them. Show them why we are not as they think, why they have it all wrong.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Yer not going to give my posting yer full and undivided attention? Why you mean spirited, misdirected excuse for a compass point! ;-) Is ok, we understand. As Sister Mary Elephant would say "thank you."

Good to see ya again, eastie... don't be a stranger!

Without reading anyone else's response, I am going to say that this is a very bad idea.

I have to disagree with this type of outing list. People can look this info up if they want to.
But I think a list like this is only used as a vindictive tool.
I would not want to be on a queer list like this so people could look up the queers faster.
I don't think it will win any votes for us anyway.
Hugs,
Laurie

ok, let say now you know who is against your civil rights even if they are civil to you to your face, now what? What did this list accomplish beside letting you get steam at your neighbor?
