Hey, everyone! At least everyone reading this. *L* *wave*

There's been heated discussion about this site lately. Heard it on "One in Ten" (gay talk radio) this past sunday and read it in Baywindow (gay newspaper) and a local newspaper.
In case you don't know; someone built this site "KnowThyNeighbor.org" to "out" anyone that signed the petition to deny civil marriage rights to same sex couples in MA. They list people's names and addresses on the site so anyone can go and see who is homophobic/against letting us keep our marriage rights.

Do you think this is a good idea?
Do you think this is the "low road" like the antics some people that hate us do to some of us and we shouldn't go down this road?
Do you think this will "win" friends to our cause?
What do you think should be an alternative if not this?

I might not have a chance to response to all that reply to my questions. I might not respond to all replies. That does not mean I don't read them. I am throwing this out just to see the opinions on this board. I'm pretty sure we all have something to say on this subject. I hope your thoughts on this subject will prompt you to sign on and have your say. :-)

weelll...if this knowledge is in "public domain", is this really harassment since all this is doing is making the info available in another way? Its not like the site is asking the visitors to the site to go out and get in these people faces.

Waves to eastie and heads west to post... um, south. I don't do directions.

=====
*L* well, we know not to let you navigate on a road trip! BTW, you would be heading south to boston!

It's nice to know a lot of us on this board are basically nice people. We don't like to tick people off, especially nice people with niceties in their nice heart.

On the other hand; maybe this road must be taken to wake up the complacent communities (gay & straight). Didn't some whites and blacks went down South to fight racism and lost their lives in the 40s & 50s before the Civil Rights movement break that glass ceiling of social concious? People in the North didn't think of KKK until they were made to be aware of it. They don't have websites to put out the names but they did have Billie Holliday to sing "Strange Fruits" and some brave souls to investigate into lynching and put that onto the newspaper. Maybe this "outing" might be the 21st Century way of advancing our movement.

See, I gave you my full, divided & undivided attention...feel it,huh? huh? huh? *l*
and who is Sister Mary Elephant??? Didn't know they're taking elephants into sisterhood. I know they're hurting for converts but isn't that taking it to the extreme? Are they following the reality tv route now? *Smile*

*wave* Good to see you too. I don't see YOU posting on this board. You've been hiding with the Prof. on the debate board? Think we need to post more debates to get her back here? *L*

See you around. *SMILE*

I agree, this won't win any votes. I was afraid this might even drive the "middle" to the other side because of this tactic. I'm just happy we don't have to put the gay marriage into a vote. MA just defeated the proposal to have the initiative to ban gay marriage put on a ballot. The guy that wrote up the proposal also withdrew his bill admitting defeat.
Now the opponents have to get 63,000 signatures if they want the ban to be placed on the ballot again. So this is not over yet.

Well, if he wants signitures, we just gave him a list to find them, lol.
You know, I never thought we would ever get this far in our lifetime, to even see gay marriage being approved or even voted on.
We really have come a long way.
Thanks for keeping us informed!
Hugs,
Laurie

I'm in agreement with most people here. I don't see the need to make that information available as a public announcement. It's already on record to look up! I think it would be good information to use to target market and education program within a community to help them see the how discriminating they are. I watched some of the John Roberts confirmation hearing and was pleased to hear Senator Edward Kennedy speak out and mention gay rights with all the other American rights. I hope that this man is not put on the the supreme court!

A.E Neuman just don't care, not clueless. I think you need to apologize to Neuman for the comparison. *grin*

I'm guessing my roots longer than yours. I think I have more messages posted here versus yours....hmmm? *raising my right eyebrow only since my left doesn't know which direction to take.*

I hope he's not on the bench also, but I'm afraid he's heading toward that high chair.
It doesn't seem like he's having a hard time being confirmed...everything I heard so far is good news for him. I hate the thought of a Federalist on the bench. I hate the thought of someone that is sooo good at sidestepping questions that focus on his personal views on the Supreme Court. I hate knowing this former clerk of Rehnquist is just stepping into his former mentor's shoes. On the brightside, he's just another conservative replacing another extreme conservative. I would hate another social conservative replacing O'Connor's seat. That would be losing two seats and think of another 30 or 40 years of conservative views ruling over the laws of the land. Just makes me shudder. *shimmy, shoulders shakin* too much alliteration? *L*

Ya have to admit the resemblance is rather remarkable, but I do concur, it is an insult to Alfred...
