The threat that the Catholic Church was embarking on a pogrom against gay clergy first arose last month when new regulations submitted to Pope Benedict for his approval suggested that gays not be considered for the priesthood. (story)

People who know childhood sexual abuse know that most child predators are heterosexual males.

When will they get a clue.
I wish all the gay priests would leave so the real story would be pointed out.
I still cannot get over such ignorance.
Like way back when they thought left handed people were... what evil or lame and they made them use their right hands.
These short sighted people always think they are so smart and tell everyone else how to live.
I do not want to get on a soap box here, but geeze, pedaphilia is not the same as gay.
Hello... gays equal two same sex consenting adults, pedifile equals adult with innocent non-consenting child.

I am soooo over the Vatican.
I wonder why people still belong to this group.
Is it because they have nothing else to turn to or just habit learned from childhood of do nothing but behave?
There was a picture in yesterday local newspaper. The picture was taken of a Baptist Church in MA (I know they not the same religion. *smile*) They have this sign up in front of the church for a sermon; "Hurricane Katrina - is it natural disaster or God's revenge against the sinners". Can you believe a church would put that up in front of their church as the next sermon? 200 evecuees were flew over here to lived on one of the bases...I felt embaressed knowing one of them might pick up the newspaper and see this and think a church would actually blame them for losing everything.
Caution:
Religious people are getting stupider as time goes on! All this is BUNK! The Christian Coalition is the spear head of all the drama because of the political pull they are getting on Capital Hill. The Catholic community feels the need to follow suit with the head hunting tactics. Next comes the Spanish Inquisition, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be next, then they will seek out teachers, then doctors, lawyers and attorneys. What we are headed for are days where people wear white hoods in the name of religion. Only now, they don't bother with the garments, they parade their ignorance just like at that Baptist Church! The church organization that protested across the street from our local gay bar was a perfect example of outward ignorance. We really should spend our Sunday mornings outside of their Church and protest loud enough to disturb their sermons! Or else, hand out flyers asking them to become gay! lol Just venting, this ticks me off and my fear is we will be put in concentration camps!

Agreed... connecting paedophilia and being gay makes me crazy... as a gay person and parent, it totally offends me. This organisation did an awful lot to cover up the scandals... the parish where I attended school... had two priests who were there during that time subsequently fall to charges.

glide on by through the words you're singin' ...

in the light she brings well is it hard to run down
in the rain yea) oh sister contine light my wings,
glide on by through the words you're singin'
well can you tell me more,
well I believe I hear you callin' and yes it's hard to run

Yeah, the Katrina references were bound to happen... and in fact recall a story from like a couple of days after the storm.
All the people were sinners, eh?
Believing is a complex thing... I went through 8 years at a French Catholic grammar school... by the time I reached college, the fit was no longer there.... women were second class citizens, they took money from the poor to build these elaborate churches and fund their lavish living... priests could not marry, women could not be priests, etc. So my beliefs were driven inward, made private, but they still existed.
A few years back I was listening to Goddess Lydia's iVillage radio broadcast... every Thursday she would do an hour on goddesses... and I'd get really uneasy with the subject. Then for some reason it consciously hit me... that baggage from all those years ago was still haunting me... I made a point to work to overcome this, and bought a jade goddess necklace that is always either on me or in my backpack. It serves as a reminder of who I am, where I am from, and what my beliefs are now, which are not Christian.
There is some need in all of us to believe... sometimes that belief is in a preset religious package, for others it is more individualised, yet still generally of the religions, as my beliefs were after leaving the church. Others have belief in the collective life energy of the universe (raises hand) we all contribute to the whole. Others do not believe in that sort of spirituality, but believe in other things... be it
