I am still unemployed, so I look at my many talents, thought how about starting my own business. This is where I need some advice, I have started a business plan, I am looking at starting an errand service i.e. post office, grocery shopping, banking, etc. , cost of gas, people can conserve, and I have a little car with great gas mileage. Roanoke is a fairly big city, I have not found any such service within the area. Small business association stated there was, I researched online for registering a business, found nothing of this sort.
??'s how do I charge for rates, how to become bonded, how to register business, lots of ??'s
Name: what you do ladies think, I am thinking something short and easy, the one I came up with is Errands 4 U,
I have a really good network base already, also targeting cleaning companies with a letter of intro.and cards for potential clients. I have great organization and time management skills that will help. I am also good at tracking money. I don't have a computer, so I can do the books by hand for the time being.
I would love your thoughts on this venture and feel it would be successful.
Thank you ladies! gracemae59

You can also register you business name so nobody else can use it.
I have started many successful businesses and then either sold them or moved on to something else once they were built.
My problem is getting bored to easy.
The one I have stuck with is Photography. I don't advertise it right now, but I get plenty of word of mouth jobs.
I think you business idea is a very good one. Single parents, people who work long hours, other small businesses,
People who commute and need to save on gas, agoraphobics lol, but true, the elderly and shut ins, so many people could be interested in your services.
I hear that people like to have the service to do gift shopping for them too.
Your success will come through proper marketing, scheduling, people skills, money management and time manage ment such as route planning and areas to get the most customers served in the least amount of drive time.
It is really important to write a detailed business plan (they can help you with this at the Small Business Admin.)
That way you have a plan to stick with, however it can be updated for the good of your business.
Also, it is good to have a clear vision, your short term, mid-range and long term goals will help you stay on task and focused.
I have successfully started and run a Deli, grooming shop, photography business, craft and craft supply business, photography business, and a Curb Appeal business keeping the properties looking good for real estate agents while the houses and businesses are for sale.
If you ever want to talk let me know either by posting or by email under my siggy.
It's a good idea! Go for it! And good luck!
Laurie
