Total bunk; I can't believe with all the controversy surrounding him, that they voted him in!

In my opinion, this particular (tic) Justice has to deal with a lot of issues that his conscience, if he has one, will bother him until he dies. If I remember correctly he does have a child. Goddess forbid if his child should have to deal with his/her dad's decisions, as they also apply to him/her, when he/she grows up. I pity him/her.

Hugs,

Sebastian

I don't know what to make of him. There is a part of me that thinks this guy could be another Souter; but I get skittish because his daddy appointed Souter, and surely he is quite cognizant of what transpired and wished to avoid a repeat.

That is the hope... Roberts was a trade off. And is it too much to expect that a woman be chosen?

We fell asleep and began to dream when something broke the night
Memories stirred inside of us - the struggle and the fight
And we could feel the heat of a thousand voices
Telling us which way to go
And we cried out "Is there no escape from the words that plague me so?"

And we were drawn to the rhythm
Drawn into the rhythm of the sea
Yes, we were drawn to the rhythm
Drawn into the rhythm of the sea

Drawn to the Rhythm ~ Sarah McLachlan

so now we know a woman was chosen. now what?
I don't feel confortable with a Bush loyalist on THE Bench, even that chosen one turn out to be a woman. I cringed when the Democrates didn't put up a good fight. I know Kennedy gave a strong voice but I didn't hear anyone else objecting! It's more of a resigned state right now. Just going with the protocal of confirming her to the bench. I don't see how they can block her or want to block her when the Senate give up so easily with Roberts and he got the Big Chair of the Justice System.

The writings Pam posted are interesting. Roberts sound scary and I think he will be a step back for the Greater Good cause. What confuse me is this paragraph..."Roberts took the position that Congress could constitutionally strip the Supreme Court of the authority to rule on cases regarding school prayer, abortion, and other issues, a position to the right of that advanced by Theodore Olson and adopted by the Reagan administration." Did he write Congress can step in if they deem the Supreme Court is out of bound? I never heard or read any thing like this before. It seem to go against his view of anti-Congress.

At least there are some writings by Roberts to consider. We don't know where Harriet Miers viewed in regards to how the laws relate to its citizens. I don't know if I should be sadden or hopeful. I guess I just have to keep reading and hopefully these reporters can find out something of substance of this lady.
