Wellllllll, she did say she was against overturning the sodomy law, now that is real encouraging, eh? I do not wish to trash someone's faith, but the fact that she is heavy into the evangelical movement scares me a tad... why oh why did I read A Handmaid's Tale a few months back? With every new story like this it spooks me anew.

I have hope for Roberts, make that I've no choice but to have hope... the damage that could be done here is huge, and if either of them go sour, we get hit twice, once for gender and once for orientation.

Conservatives are opposing her, which is intriguing... and there is another element to consider... if she is shot down by the left, this could be used as a crutch to really put forth a card carrying radical right nutcase. This may be the best we get... until people get off their arses and start voting.

And then the big problem... our leaders, the ones who represent our point of view... have lost their voices. They run from words and phrases like liberal and same sex marriage, instead of standing there and saying why these are good things.. why run from it? They let their opposition define who they are, and I'll be damned if I will let someone else define what I am for.

Liberalism has a proud history... cite the accomplishments. I can rattle off a bunch without looking anything up, and they should be ready to say this stuff whenever some moron challenges them. Same with same sex marriage... here's why gays being able to marry is good, here's why discrimination and bigotry are bad. Show some guts... like Newsom did.

We fell asleep and began to dream when something broke the night
Memories stirred inside of us - the struggle and the fight
And we could feel the heat of a thousand voices
Telling us which way to go
And we cried out "Is there no escape from the words that plague me so?"

And we were drawn to the rhythm
Drawn into the rhythm of the sea
Yes, we were drawn to the rhythm
Drawn into the rhythm of the sea

I don't really believe the conservatives are in opposition of her. I think that is all an act so she will fly in without a fight. Afterall, they really don't have a leg to stand on with her. She never sat on a Bench or ruled over a case. She is a trial lawyer. To me, trial lawyers look after businesses not individual's rights. If I don't learn about the judges that are/will be sitting on the supreme court, the less encourage i am about the future.

I rather have Bush bring on a radical...I believe that will scare the majority of people, right and left, into calling their senators to actually fight instead of letting they off easily. I rather have a good fight and learn what they're fighting about and why than letting this horse and pony show go through without entertaining the Big Circus. *grin*

Ooh, yer spoilin' fer a good tussle! If I thought it was a fight we could win, yeah... but choice and lgbt rights are like the most passionate of issues for me... and if choice is lost, we have lost so very much. I don't wish it to be like it was when Pam and I were sprouts, don't wish women to be paying quacks and putting their lives in danger, don't wish to see the stigma that was attached to single moms come back into vogue again. But then, I will fight the fight.. but how many others will, or are willing to think on it more than 1 minute?

Next year will be a key one, and I believe there is potential to take back the US House... Senate will be tougher, 17 Democrats and 1 Independent are up for reelection, and Democrats only have 44 seats now. Which means 2008 likely sees a herd of Republicans up for reelection, so we had best have a strong presidential candidate. if we do, we can get both.

On the subject of a fight, I'm more optimistic. I don't think we will go back to the back alleyways. I do think the pro choice group will put up a fight and will even manage to persuade others to be on our side. Talking of prochoice, you know what I hate, when people think being pro choice, they think it means I'm pro abortion too. Just because I'm prochoice doesn't mean I want or would get an abortion just because of unwanted pregnancy! Jeez! In a broader sense, they don't realise it a choice we must have available so there's no back alleyways to turn to. Each one that choose that route usually lives with their decision the best way they can. ok, i'm off my soapbox. I saw this bumper sticker on a jeep...pro choice and pro life. I wanted to follow her to give her a high five. *L*

As for the next election, I'm not really optimistic. Since we didn't win with Kerry/Edward ticket by 3% of the vote, I don't see how someone that sympathetic to our cause can be elected with lots of red states keeping their electorial count?

This proposed bill is total trash. I'm speechless. There are kids out there being beaten, raped, etc everyday by heterosexuals and they didn't have to pass a test to be a parent. What a piece of TOS...

The Santorum's, Frist's, Coburn's... make me gag. They spread hate, they encourage this kind of thinking. And they do it in the name of religion. If god exists, she too is gagging.
