It has been almost a year in Virginia since that time I have worked only 6 months. I have been out of work since Sept.05, I applied/register with 4 temp agencies, I check in on a daily basis, I am on two school districts for sub teaching, I have had 3 interviews and sent out numerous resumes and register with the employment office. So I decided to start an errand service, flyers/cards have been posted/given out throughout the week. I met with a realtor who would like gift baskets for her clients, but currently no closings yet. She would like me to make a sample basket so she can display in the office for the other realtors to see. She doesn't want to pay, and I don't have the money to put together. In fact, child support has stopped two weeks, the idiot stopped working. Is it me, am I doing something wrong? I am so frustrated I can't seem to generate any work. I have even applied to retail,no luck. I have a positive attitude, but no work equals no bills paid. I am down to my last 40.00 dollars, I have used up savings. The last of the money has to go for gas in the car. I spend 5.00 a week for groceries. A friend of mine is helping with Oct. rent, which is wonderful and most thankful for. I am not asking for anything but for prayers for work to come my way. Thanks.
Help, what else can I being doing this is so insane, when I lived in Vt, I was unemployed for a year, but coming here. So I can't help but think I must be screwing up somewhere.
Just needed to vent and have some reassurance that I am not crazy.
Everyone have a great weekend! gracemae59

Hi, no you're not crazy. If someone wanted me to make them something, and they don't pay me, for the material, then they get nothing. Nothing plus nothing equals nothing. Call your lawyer, about the idiot. You're not screwing up anywhere. Patience, until your other financial possiblities come in, you're going to have to slow down on unnecessary expenses. I have to limit myself on spending on things that I don't need. I don't like it, but I have to. It doesn't matter where I live, I still have to watch the things I spend on. I'm not a business person, but if I spend the money that I don't have, I'll go bankrupt. I know the saying, "you have to spend money to make money" But first you have to live and be able to take care of your needs, and yourself. If you don't have the money to do what you need to do for yourself, you will suffer.
Hope that helps.

((((((Gracemae))))))) So sorry you find yourself in this situation. Have you considered temporary work as a cashier in a department store like Wal-Mart or Target? Or even waiting tables? Something just to get you over the hump. Hope something will come through soon.
Hugs from me and Caly.
((((((Gracemae)))))),
I'm very sorry that you are experiencing this hardship. I do hope things improve soon. Please keep the board updated as you can. Venting is good and necessary at times.

I think you just have not found your niche yet.
Pieces of My Life
I would borrow $20.00 from a friend. Make a nice gift basket sample with the things a new home owner might need.
You can get awesome baskets and cellophane wrapping from the Dollar Store. You can also buy some foods and other things from the Dollar store, things like coffees and teas and little soaps. These are normal brands the Dollar store buys them from overstock and buy outs.
They will look fine in the gift baskets. Maybe some candles too. When you have time go to the Government building and get your tax ID number so you can buy whole sale. I think you can make a nice sample basket from the Dollar store on $20.00.
The Sample should be on you to give to prospective clients like the Realtors. Think if car dealors, furniture stores etc did not have samples and you just had to buy something before you new what it was going to look like. After all, your clients need to put their trust in you for a worthy product.
In most of my businesses my customers came mostly by word of mouth. I did constant questionairs about how they heard about my business. Consider the Yellow pages a waste of time and expense. They like to see what they are getting, like what the dog looks like after it was groomed, how the photos turned out, or what the gift baskets will look like that will be sent from them.
Don't forget Apartments and Senior/Assisted living homes too.
You can make one basket for now and take photos to use for now for other clients. Or just work with that one realator until you make some money. Also contact actual builders. I did that when selling furniture and they sent me designers who decorated their model homes. I had the largest account in the company.Look up home builders in your area and send them a nice letter introducing yourself and your business.
They will most certainly want to have a sample or at least see one.
As for making some quick money... you could put flyers on your neighbors doors or in their news paper things (it is illegal to put things in mail boxes) and charge $10.00 a day to walk there dogs while they are at work. They might only want you to come a couple times a week but it could still be money to keep you afloat.
And if it is in your neighborhood you can do several a day.
Ting also had a good idea about cashiering or waiting tables for a bit to get by. You would have your tips right away each day.
Waiting tables sounds like a sure thing.
I would also call the businesses that have not hired you and ask why they passed you over. You have a right to do that to find out what might be wrong or what you might need to change on your resume' or interviews.
Sheila just did that to find out why a furniture store did not hire her and they said it was because of timing, they had just finished staffing, but they will be opening another store next year here. It is ok to ask.
I am sorry that you have been having such a hard time gracemae. I really hope things will start getting better for you and soon!
