To hitch or not to hitch......

We feel very lucky to live in a state that allows us, through Civil Union, to have EVERY RIGHT as those afforded to those hetro types. We can file a joint tax returns, are considered 'next of kin' in the hospitals, can tranfer real estate with no taxes incurred the whole nine yards....so why wouldnt we jump all over this? When we had our home study for the adoption I could say, in all honesty, that i was single...because that is what the laws called me. If we are to get 'civilized' :o) our chances of adopting again internationally are gone. I will no longer be a single person. We would really like to adopt another child...a little brother for Emma...and we would really like to get hitched, to give us the equal rights we deserve......So life for us lesbos is still unfair....we can't have our cake and eat it too......

Why is it that you wouldn't be able to adopt internationally if you married? Is it because of discrimination? That isn't fair. That is a dilemma for sure. Seems like there is always a hurdle to overcome.

It's much worse in the south. Our City Council can't even bring itself to spell out who the "all" is in this resolution:

"All people within the corporate limits of the City of Knoxville are deserving of respect and dignity" and, therefore, the city "recognizes the humanity" and "expresses its intent to promote the well-being" of all people.

Two council members wanted to spell out who the "all" was including acceptance of all

"And there is always the option of getting hitched after little brother comes along.
"
ahhh, only if it were that simple....the State will be requiring us to be hitched to continue receiving our Partnership healthcare benefits.
We are thinking of now going through the CT fostercare system...
One day at a time....

If a *civil union* is supposed to be like marriage, can you do in-state adoption after you become *civil-ized* :) ?

Yes..actually even before the civil union laws Gay/Lesbians were welcome into the fostercare system and to adopt. In fact, without it we have the paperwork in already for Lise to officially adopt Emma.

I hope your foster care system is better than CA.
