Baby Steps...
Find a Conversation

I got some good news during my visit with my parents last week. No one in my family knew that I'm a lesbian except my parents when I got divorced last year. I have a very small family, so it's not like I was in the closet to many people. But, my only aunt and uncle and cousins (on my dad's side) didn't know and I'm decently close to them. My dad and his sis keep in touch regularly. She kept asking him if I'd started dating. He asked me what he should tell her. I finally decided to have him tell her the truth. The kicker is that she and my uncle are ULTRA conservative, as are my cousins. They're big time southern Republicans and have pretty strong opinions about homosexuality. I was somewhat anxious about how they would respond.
My dad finally told her, and she took it well. He said it was a natural part of the conversation, not a big announcement. She said she hoped I would be happy. I don't know how my uncle reacted. I'm sure not as well. She gave me a nice Christmas card, told me she loved me and to please contact her sometime. Then I spoke to her on the phone on New Year's Eve, and she was very sweet. So, that makes me feel really good. In the big scheme of things, however, I'm sure my sexual orientation pales in comparison to the major problems her immediate family is going through.
On a related note, Caly's mom is really coming around. She sent us a cute animated snowman for our apartment, and she knitted my DDs bedroom slippers. They are really cute! She also sent Caly some extra money to spend on our apartment. It's so nice to know that even if she still doesn't approve of our relationship, she accepts it.
With each success, I feel increasingly more

We are moving, little by little. On Saturday we are moving all of the big furniture from my apartment. We've moved the lighter pieces already. I still have a month on my lease, so we can take our time getting the rest of the stuff out, although I'd like to get it done sooner rather than later. We are staying at the new place full-time now, though, which is nice. And the dog is finally
