Taken from my blog:
Wind and ice storm knocked out power around 12:30 AM Saturday morning, and it didn't come back on until 11:30 PM Saturday night (transformer blew a fuse or something). Good thing my parents bought a generator a year or so ago... If they didn't, we may have frozen to death. Everything in the new apartment is run by electricity, so we had no heat, hot water, and couldn't cook. My sister is in the old apartment, and had heat, hot water and could cook because everything is run by propane.
I was starting to go through computer withdrawal... Fortunately my cell phone has internet access, so I could at least send email and text messages... But doing so nearly drained the battery, and I was worried that I would lose contact with the outside world. Well, we do have a couple of "old fashioned" phones, so I could have called people if I really needed to. LOL
I am still cold, and am having trouble getting warm again even with my heater blowing right on me... Of course the low temperature doesn't help... It's somewhere between 8º and 24º F.

Glad you're getting warm again Ginny! Our weather has been positively crazy lately! We had highs in the 60s last week and then we were down in the 30s this weekend.
It's good to have you back with us. Stay warm!

Hope yer nice and toasty and cozy now, Ginny! It's amazing how different life is without power...
I recall one winter, in fact 11 years ago tomorrow, we had a nasty storm that took out our power for 2 days. As the storm departed that first night, the temperature dropped to almost -20F... and since we had an oil burner, ixnay on heat. My ex and the kidlets headed for her moms, I stayed ini the home and used a propane heater, not a great idea, but it saved the downstairs. The upstairs forced hot water pipes froze and burst, and I had to tear open walls to fix it all.
There's the wind and the rain
And the mercy of the fallen
Who say hey it's not my place to know what's right
There's the weak and the strong
And the many stars that guide us
We have some of them inside us
Mercy of the Fallen
worlds undone
Oh Ginny, that's so terrible! I had a similar experience in 1996 when we had an ice storm. I was without power for a number of days. I cannot remember how many. But, I had to have someone with 4 wheel drive take me to my ex-husband's house- he had a kerosene heater. I had nothing for heat. Our highs for about 2 days in a row were only in the 20's, which is cold for us.
I don't like winter storms.
The longest I've ever gone without power was during Hurricane Hugo in 1989. The hurricane swept across the entire state. But, at least that happened during September and the weather wasn't cold. We typically do not begin having colder temps until the end of October or beginning of November.

After speaking to you on the phone I still think it is to chilly in your room. 50 degrees is to cold for me in the house.
Ask you Mom and Dad to trade you rooms. Do you think they would understand? Not!

Thanks everyone. The outside temp has gone up, so it's warmer inside, too... Even without the heat on. I ordered a crank up
