OK well we have a few people that I know of who want to try a Book Discussion group here at the board. For those of you who havent seen that thread here is the link

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-bhlesbianlif&msg=10376.1&ctx=0

And since there is a new month starting Monday I thought it would be a great time to start.

So those who are interested please post a few books you would like to see us read and discuss and also feel free to comment on others ideas. If we dont come to a consenus here I will put the finalists in a poll. We are going to try and choose 2 books. One for May and one for June to give people lots of time to join in.

My suggestions...

My niece traveled to New York City to see that play! She loved it. I'm interested in that - and in Pam's choice.

I don't want to make the decision, I'll read whatever.

OK, the library put me on the wait list for the book Kindred, so I tried to buy it through The Literary Guild, because I belong to that club, but they don't have it. I also belong to Doubleday, and ISO, and The Book of the Month Club - but I don't owe them any purchases. SO, I checked Borders/Amazon, and they have it but I haven't ordered it yet until you say it is a sure thing.

I did notice in one of it's reviews it said "KINDRED is written at the young adult level and moves along at a brisk pace. I highly recommend it for teenagers and adults. " on that note, I would like to make a suggestion for a book I love that my daughter read in 8th or 9th grade and they actually made me read it in college. I think it would be an awesome conversation provoking book.

Ting and I have never read The Bell Jar but recently saw the movie Sylvia and are intrigued now by it. So lets put it on the list.

I'd like to add a book for a future month.

The Elegant Gathering of the White Snows. Author is Kris Radish.

From amazon.com-- When eight women in rural Wisconsin take off in the middle of the night for a journey of the heart, it touches women everywhere. The walking women are different ages and of diverse backgrounds, yet their friendship and unwavering mutual support have forged an immutable bond. They start their walk as support for Susan, who is facing an unwanted pregnancy, but all are walking for their own lost loves and lost dreams. As they walk, they talk about their lives, and the pain of the past is shed. The media picks up the news of their perambulation, and soon they become a national sensation that starts other women thinking about their lives, resulting in positive changes all over the country. The women are unaware of their influence, and their small community protects their privacy, so they can proceed without the intrusion of the outside world. A rallying cry for the empowerment of women, Radish's novel is also a celebration of the strong bond that exists between female friends
