That's a pretty open ended question Sebastian.
For me it depends on the type of chat room. Honestly I prefer message forums like this over a live chat room, which could be considered odd since I was the chat cl here for some time.
Normally if I am in a chat room, I am more of a wallflower. I lurk and sometimes may jump in if someone either says something I want to respond to, or if someone even aknowledges me. I guess I see many chat rooms just as cliquish as a group of high school drama queens (except ours, of course).
I know that your question was how I feel about chat room conversation, and not why I prefer message boards. I looked at your choices, and I could have picked any one of them depending on the room I am in. I believe the best chat rooms are ones that are moderated, for obvious reasons. I hate seeing people get flamed unfairly and chased away. I also cannot stand raunchy language used unescessarily. I also like to have a general topic - something that isn't too heavy like politics (since I make an ass out of myself whenever I try and say something in that area) or other heavily debated issues. I like to have fun with the others.
One of my most memorable chats here, I recal, was when we all somehow got into a singing competition. Yes - online - we were all singing something silly and laughing hysterically at each other. That is the best kind of chat conversation for me, because I knew everyone there and it felt more like I was in a room full of friends than a little cyber room.
So, I feel chat conversations could go either way depending on the nature of the participants, the depth and topic of the conversation, and also how great or crappy your internet connection is.
Great topic Sebastian!

Thanks Beth, I like your input. I can agree with most of what you said. I don't go into too many chat rooms. I can agree with you on one point, chat rooms can be a bit cliquish and people do get flamed and chased away and that's sad. I think sometimes a chat room is great for helping someone get through a serious issue that causing them some pain and other people that they know can help them out, and they can express how they feel.
Our chat room, when everyone was coming to it, was great. In my opinion, there were a lot of giggles and some serious conversation. I especially like it when you brought in a famous author. That was well controlled and (I guess everyone's questions were answered, I know mine were ;-)). Yes, some of my "I think" statements was aimed at the chat rooms that some or all of us go into. I can agree that chat rooms should be moderated, but sometimes the moderator can loose control, or have too much control and let their ego or favoritism get in the way.
Since I've gotten my new computer, my internet connection is great and being in a chat room is the most wonderful experience I've ever had.
Thanks, Beth. I just wanted to see what folks thought about chat rooms, be it ours or any place else.
Hugs!
