I also want to say that, as much as I am grateful for the recognition that some states DO give us... 'stepping stones' and compromise just doesn't wash in my book. Why should I accept anything less than full equality, just to make others feel okay about me, or feel less threatened? I mean, if I'm going to give up some of my rights, why not let them keep all of them? Isn't that somehow giving permission for others to treat me as a lesser deserving creature?
And since NC seems to be a state not rushing to join the no marriage for gays bandwagon perhaps we have a glimmer of hope that it will go the other way.. *fingers crossed!

I think Civil Unions are good. It is a stepping stone. A positive step in a good direction. It gives a couple legal rights.
