Kim, reading this book has been a struggle for me as well, because I took my journey during a very dark, tumultuous time in my life.

You pose a good thought Kim and one I hope we can discuss in the book thread.

Kidd is writing about Christianity's betrayal of women. But we know a worse betrayal. The wound that Christianity inflicts on women is nothing like the cruel wound it gouges out of homosexuals. Our inherent humanity, our worth and dignity as persons, is negated.

I think it has a lot of parallel for gays and lesbians and the patriarchy/sexism of Christianity

================

I wonder if patriarchy and sexism in the church is succeeding because these two camps are not working together in their fight. It's interesting you wrote that one group is treated more cruelly and then you can see a parallel in that treatment. If it's parallel, isn't the cruel treatment equal? Anyway, how can cruelty be acceptable for one group and not another, shouldn't matter what degrees. Its interesting kindness is lost on the higher ups in the church when you're not part of what they viewed as acceptable.
