"What role does spirituality currently play in your life?"
For me, it has always played a supporting role but it has always been there too. I certainly have never felt the need to center my life around it, but its part of everything I do in someways too.
Hi Caly
It is not surprising in my head that there are few people willing to discuss their spiritual lives. As unfortunate as it is, there are people who will slam others for their beliefs.
I am not only not one of them, I am secure enough in my beliefs to post them. So here goes:
I am a recovering alcoholic, in a program which stresses spirituality. I have to practice a spiritual life daily or my friends and loved ones don't like being around me. In the program we are encouraged to have a Higher Power, a power greater than ourselves. The founders refered to this power as "G-d as we understand Him." The best part is, my Higher Power and my DH's Higher Power don't have to be the same, even though we are in the same program. I am also a practitioner of a religion. The G-d of my understanding is similar to the one my church now preaches, but not similar to the one that my church preached as I was growing up. My DH's Higher Power is a cross between a diety and an extraterrestrial. My church, although it is not DH's welcomes him to services, and even has asked us to be on a panel for marriage encounter weekends.
I pray as often as I can, mostly daily, and mostly prayers of gratitude. My Higher Power doesn't punish or betray or test. My HP helps me to overcome obstacles, even when I don't know that the help is there.
Good question, but like Beth mentioned, many people tend to keep these views private for fear of conflict.
I don't push my beliefs on anyone and won't allow anyone to push their views on me.

Great question Caly!
Thanks Beth,
I guess I was thinking that spirituality is different from religion and I was only asking what role it played in your life not necessarily what you believe but thats OK.
Hi Elise,
Thanks for answering and yes that is more what I was asking.
Hi Molly!
Thanks Ginger!
You are so right. While I know there is 'something' that comes after we die, I so think living in the here and now is what its all about.
