It was so nice to exchange "Happy Pride" sentiments with so many GLBTs this weekend in Atlanta. Those two simple words say so much and validate the pride that I feel in being who I'm meant to be.

The event was just as grand as last year's, although it seemed more subdued this year. We got a few souveniers and visited all the festival booths. It was dang hot and humid on Saturday. The host hotel was located just a couple of blocks away from the festival park area, and we were so glad we stayed there this year instead of a few miles away like we did last year. It was a nice hotel with an incredible view of the city. And it was very nice to stay amongst other festival-goers. Some were young and partied hard, but most were older and quieter.

On Saturday night, we enjoyed a lovely dinner in a nearby suburb with mssherri. She is a fascinating and very sweet person, and we talked for almost 3 hours! Afterward we went to what I think is the most popular lesbian bar in the city. I felt like an old fogey and looked like a soccer mom in my cute capris compared to all the young chickadees in polos, cargo shorts, and flip flops, but it was a very nice place to hang out. The DJ was fantastic and played lots of 80s disco stuff. Later in the evening, we watched a drag king show with one queen in on the act.

Yesterday was parade day, and it ended with a downpour. We didn't enjoy it as much as last year's but still parts were entertaining, and I was so glad to see so many wonderful groups represented such as PFLAG and lots of churches. They all got lots of applause as they passed by. There were also lots of kids in the parade. One slept through the whole walk down Peachtree Street and another sipped away at her juice box. It was too cute! Judy Shepard, Matthew Shepard's (the gay male who was tied to a fence in Wyoming and tortured, beaten, and left to die) mother, was an honorary grand marshal.

We headed home after the parade, exhausted and sore from all the walking, but it was worth the drive.

Thanks! The nice folks at the Signature Showcase board created it for me. I also had one with shoes created, so I'll use that one too at some point!
