Good Morning All!
Hope you all had a great weekend. Here's this week's query and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the subject.

A little late on this one, but I am loading one post at a time on dial up and its taking me forever to catch up with everything!!
I did the dieting thing a year or so ago. I got sick of looking at me, at the size I had let myself become and I knew I was the one who made it that way and so I was going to have to be the one to change it. I didnt feel healthy, always tired, have problems with my feet which were getting worse with all the weight I was carrying.
I made excuses for eating the stuff I was, but Natalie was exactly right when she pointed out that I am choosing how to deal with these things, I am choosing to buy the food, I am putting it in my mouth....
There is no easy way to lose it once you put it on. It took me years to get to the size I did and it wasnt going to come off again over night. I know they tell you that you only need to exercise 20 mins a day but really that is a whole load of bovine excreta- you need to commit yourself to at least 2 hours a day. Then the eating bit is simple- to lose weight, calories in need to be less than calories out. It takes practise but you soon learn which foods are going to give you more mileage for the calories.
Also, there is absolultely no point in undertaking any of this if you have no intention to sustain it. I dont believe in the whole dieting thing at all- it is a complete lifestyle change that is called for. I lost 30kgs over a year and I didnt go to all that effort to turn around and put them back on again. I still keep my diet to around 5000 kilojoules per day- and I stop and evaluate the stuff I am eating from time to time.
Has it been worth it for me? heck yes! I used to just buy the clothes that fitted me, mens sizes went larger than womens sizes... these days I can actually choose between this one or that one... I am a lot fitter and healthier and apparently I no longer snore!
Thats wonderful Ven! Thanks for replying! As I told another poster, these threads never close, its always fun to hear what people have to say.
I totally agree that its a lifestyle change and sure not easy.
Congratulations on your weight loss Ven! Sounds like you were successful in making the necessary lifestyle changes too. That is the hard part for me right now. I totally agree that "healthy lifestyle", not "diet", are the key words.
A lot of the weight loss/healthy living thing is trial and error in my opinion. At least it has been for me. I'm getting better at figuring out which foods are best for me and determining the amount and kind of exercise I need. I just added running to my cardio routine, and I can tell that it has already kicked up my metabolism a notch.
Thanks for replying! I wish you continued good luck with your efforts!
Everyone utilises food and metabolises at different rates so it is a matter of working out what works for you. I am what we would call a "good do-er" -can go a long way on very little fuel. The change of diet alone wasnt enough to help me lose weight and it was taking on a physically challenging job that did it for me. Up until then I had led a fairly sedentary lifestyle, walking up to an hour a day was about the sum total of my exercise.
Muscles are the body's little fat burning engines so I think building the muscle and then working it is what worked for me. Now I have adapted to the work I am doing I think I need to challenge myself a bit more. Maybe I should ask my boss to only board the BIG strong dogs?! There is nothing quite like wrestling a resistant giant schnauzer into the hydrobath lol
Dont expect results right away- for some people it can happen quickly but must have been a month before I noticed I was dropping the weight. I think many people get disillusioned when the results arent as instantaneous as they hoped.
take care and good luck!
I think it pays to have a realistic goal in mind also. I never aspired to look like a supermodel (no..REALLY I DIDNT!! rofl) -I just knew I was always a lot smaller and over the years watched my knees disappear. I have knees again. I have lots of boney bits I havent felt for a while. Ribs... collar bone.. hips.. I still take a size 14 to 16 womens and a small to medium mens and I would like to get a little bit smaller- at least within the healthy weight range for my height. It's not something I am stressing over however, as I am 2/3rds of the size I was and I have to be healthier for it.
The hardest part is the commitment to it and it sounds like you have already passed that hurdle. Good luck to you.
I am on an all protein diet... Well not really I eat a good bit of fat too. It keeps me slender and energized. I keep in shape by running. You probably think that is impossible, but your wrong. I just eat an energy gel (pure carbs) about thirty minutes before my run. I love running and I love low-carb!
My girlfriend has a metabolism to die for. She can eat whatever she wants and she doesn't gain an ounce. She has to constantly eat or she gets weak. If she didn't shovel down food then she would be supermodel thin in no time.
