Thanks for your insights Nony,
I have to agree here too that we are losing so much without even realizing it. Each of us is so often caught up in the day to day struggles of just living that we don't realize what is going on around us till it too late. I myself am trying desperately to change that and make myself as aware as I can about what is happening to my world.
Hugs to you and Lou both!

I'm worried about what the world is letting Israel do right now, to Palestine and to Lebanon. To borrow a phrase from Kim, I'm not so sure we in the US have any right to be calling that kettle black... not when you look at Iraq.
----------------
I’m concerned with what Israel is doing right now also but I don’t think “the world” is letting Israel bombed Lebanon freely either. There are some vocal leaders (UN’s Annan for example) arguing for immediate stop to the bombing. Unfortunately, without US’s President joining this vocal objection, Israel and the Muslims Nation will see this as a tacit approval of Israel’s actions. I also think there are people in the background doing their diplomatic best to stop this chaos. We just don’t hear about them, which make them more effective. I also agree Israel should have seek other ways to get their two soldiers back instead of start bombing Lebanon but Hezbollah must take responsibility for the current situation also. I just hope when all is settled, Hezbollah’s actions is not forgotten also.

I also think we Americans have lost SO many of our rights with all this terrorism. And it scares me that people don't even care. The terrorists are beating us in ways we've forgotten to value. They're changing our freedoms, our rights, our sense of equality and justice. Even oversight is virtually non-existant, unless of course, you're willing to lie for the party.
Permanent martial law.
-------------------
I hope you’re not advocating martial law. That would be giving our rights away willingly. Did we lose our rights to terrorism or did we willingly give it away by not objecting to the Patriot Act when it was published? I think the terrorists are fighting our way of life (Western Ways) in Afghanistan (that poor forgotten country) and Iraq and leaving us alone to destroy our way of life by our own actions or inactions. I think some of our elected public officials are willing and hoping to be our overseers. The Patriot Act is one form of eroding our civil rights in the US and it scared me to hear some people willing to give up even an inch of their rights so they think the US Gov will protect them from another 9/11 from happening again. I wondered why they don’t think what the US Gov was doing before 9/11 to not catch these terrorists that hijacked the planes with all the highly trained & skills people and equipments US's Gov possessed!
I find people in my circle and places I’ve traveled to either a bit fearful and hope the government can protect them or just don’t care what’s going on in the world because it’s too much to think about. What is it like in Europe, UK, Latin America, Canada, Africa? Are people afraid and expect their government to do something in the fight on terrorism or do they see all this chaos (fight on terrorism, Iraq, North Korea, Afghanistan, Iran) as US’s war?
The only place terrorism was not in my mind or even in the back of my mind was when I was in China and Hong Kong. They seem to think this is not their problem. It was like getting the feelings of pre 9/11 again. All they are concerned with is making money. How strange, huh? *smile*
Caly, I don't think any of us are claiming to be experts or else I'm asking for maximum fee allowed to be a talking head on tv! ;-) We all have opinions on what's going on in the world and should feel free to express it. (George B said the men and women are there fighting for our freedom.) I think people on the board read enough of your postings to know you don't live to be offensive. *l* Beside, if someone took your opinion the wrong way, they should post a rebuttal and get a discussion going so we can all understanding each other more clearly.
On Nostradamus…I think his story can be interpreted any way you want. *grin*
I don't watch the news closely. I did find this funny because I always get accused of stealing because Wal-Mart's CD dethefter doesn't work.
