Hi Caley,
I have been in your position before when I was working.
The way I have handled it is to take it as a challenge to be a step ahead of the boss. I also "act" like it is no sweat to get it done and just do it like it is a great idea. At the same time I stick up for my staff.
Do not let them get you down. Sheila and I have had to go in as new bosses before. You or they come in strong then mellow out. It is harder to go in mellow and then become strong. Just give them some time for the adjusting period and
talk to them as if you are motivated to do things their way. Soon they will let up I just know it. get to know what they like to drink and get them say their coffee and say good morning etc. Just be motivated to be their right hand woman and get it done. Let them know that this is exciting for you and you are "enjoying the challenge". (Even though you are not.) Make them feel like your space is where they can come to relax and have a cup of coffee and discuss things.
I have been on both sides of this fence as I am sure you have. Try to remember how you would like it for your employees to be for you and just be that for your boss even though it seems like they are pushing crap right now. It will be the challenge that can motivate you. It is always nice to get along with the boss/bosses.
Use some icebreakers, little jokes or humor when you can, but not sarcasm
New bosses bring new change and at first they will be tough then they will chill. Just remember that. As long as you do things their way. The boss may not always be right but he/she is always the boss.
Laurie

Thanks Laurie for your suggestions.

They are definately not the discuss things type of people, nor do they have ANY sense of humor at all. I can't even get them to return a cheery "Good Morning" the few times I have seen them.

(((((Caly))))) Sorry you are in pain today.
Your bosses sound impossible to deal with. I guess they are miserable with life or something.
Now you have my curiosity aroused as to what kind of mold they want you to fit into. Maybe you could explain that sometime when you are feeling better. Sounds like they are very judgemental types. I sure don't know how to help you there right now. I just hope you don't have to keep butting heads with them.
Thankfully you do not have to much contact with them at least.
Feel better soon!
Hugs,
Laurie

Honestly? I start looking for a new job if it a boss, and I am cordial and polite if it is a co-worker.

Hi Beth,

Thanks for the input. Believe me, if it gets too bad, I will. I know the boss is the boss and can do anything they want, and I will comply to a point, but I have stand on my principles too or I would feel like a failure.

Sorry about your work situation. The only thing I would do is go into work, do my hours, and go home. Every boss has a boss, and I'm pretty sure these two are no different than any other boss. If it were a co-worker, I would do my job and go home. In my opinion, work is a place where I perform a service, no more and no less.

I don't have to be friends with my boss(es) or co-worker(s), but while I'm there, I must do what I'm being paid to do. My job. If I get to the point of having my stomach tied up in a knot before I go to work, or get all bunched while I'm at work, then it's time to find another job.

Of course, that's my experience and my opinion.

Thanks SB!

You are absolutely right and that is pretty much what I am doing. I will give them my best effort when I am there and avoid contact as much as possible. They know where to find me if they want something specific from the kitchen, and in the meantime I am going to keep doing what I was hired to do and what earned me a 4.2 out of a possible 5 on my last employee evaluation.

Caly -

I try to talk to them the minimum amount that I can. And try to avoid them as much as possible.
