This week's question needs a little background.

Thanks Cat.

I doubt a compliment will get me anywhere, since I can't even get them to acknowledge a "good morning" but I will see how it goes.

Now that is really bad if they won't even acknowledge a goodmorning Caly.
I bet they would acknowledge a big old kick in the butt!
'Course you might want to wait until you have another job lined up! LOL
Keep us posted on this Caly. Maybe they will mellow out in time. I hope so for your sake.
Hugs,
Laurie

Since I am not able to work anymore, my answer has to be in the past tense.

Difficult bosses are a pain and have to be dealt with carefully. I was usually able to work around their personal issues and just focused on doing my job. When things were unbearable, I had a higher up boss to go to, but doesn't sound like you have that option!

As for at home, my dh likes to think he is the boss, but I let him continue thinking that way and do what is correct. LOL If it is something major, the trick is to get HIM to think it was his idea...stupid, but necessary sometimes.

It's kind of hard for me to answer this one because it's been years since I've worked with someone I don't get along with. I've been very lucky to have an open, flexible, and supportive boss. I've been in Knoxville for 12 years and have had great bosses since I moved here. But, I also work for a state academic institution, which can be pretty laid back. Sure, monster bosses can be found on campus but from what I've seen and experienced

"How do you deal with a hard to get along with Boss or co-worker?"

It's not an easy one. Where I work it's run by a husband and wife team but in my situation I was added to the work force. I didn't get along with the wife a long time. Things have changed finally and we do seem to get along really well. I think what changed it was I needed some time to prove myself to her, that I made mistakes in the beginning while I was still learning and gaining confidence but have proven myself to be mostly reliable.
It could be just a settling in period for them. I would give it a bit more time, do your best and give them no reason to have a problem with you.

My co-worker is a different story. Everyone finds her hard to work with and she is the reaso n they have had a high turnover of staff members. I have to look at the situation objectively. She is a hard worker, she is reliable- she has done the job for long enough to know what she is doing. She has set me up at times and left me in difficult situations. I could have avenged her, I could have complained about her... but I didnt do either. I dealt with her in my own way. I pretended she hadnt got at me at all, I continued doing things that made her job easier... I dont think we would ever get along as friends but under pressure we do work really well together. In fact, despite the personal differences between us, our bosses regularly go away for weekends and leave the two of us in charge of the kennels knowing everything is in good hands and we will wait til they get back before making any attempts to kill each other....

I think it's recognising people's strengths as well as their weaknesses. For everything you think of that you don't like about a person, look a little further and find something postive.
