National Coming Out Day is not something I acknowledge. I live my life as an openly gay individual every day, everywhere, even with all of the appropriate public displays of affection. I never see others in my area (fairly conservative) doing the same, as it is not the norm where I live. At times, I do encounter discrimination. But this is my life; this is me, and I will not change who I am to suit another's idea of what the world should look like. I also hope it helps others who may be struggling with the decision to realize it's okay. Maybe I should focus more on NCOD. But I like to think every day is an opportunity to show we are just like everyone else and for those who are closeted to see they too can come out and enjoy the world. Life is way too short to hide who you are from yourself, from the world, from your family, from anybody.
Seeing that I'm still married and technically considered heterosexual in my small community, I'm not going to do anything. I'm probably not leaving the house anyway. lol I definitely support it and think it's a great idea! I agree with Karen, too though, that every day is a celebration of our true selves, whatever that means to you. It shouldn't take a special day to make it "okay" to be gay. It's nice to have national recognition, but it's not necessary in order to live as your authentic self. Good question, Caly! :)
I know, I know broken record. My coming process for me is everyday. I've come out to certain people in my church family as a transgender. I've been accepted with open arms and with love. When we have coming out day in my church, it is an affirming thing. I, for the time being, choose not to come out.
Even thought I'm proud of what I am, I can't hide what I am. My coming out here, was a very tense and sensitive thing for me to do. Sometimes, I feel as though, Gigi is missed. Maybe so, but she's still there. Considering that she will never be separate from me. But as a member of this community, I feel at home and I'm very content. But I don't need one day or one month to come out of the closet. Whenever I share anything, it's from my own personal experience. But isn't change a wonderful thing?

We don't have a National Coming Out Day here, but for anyone interested I looked up the history of it here:
