DD2 broke her collar bone

It's been a tough few days at our house. DD2 was visiting her cousins at exSIL's house this weekend and apparently was horsing around/wrestling with them when it happened. From what I understand she didn't cry out or anything. It just started hurting later in the day. At first we thought it was a crick (sp?) in her neck or that she twisted it somehow. She's had a horrible time getting comfortable at night and putting on clothes. This morning her collar bone was swollen and I could feel a bump. Well, the bump is where the bone broke. I saw it on the x-ray, and it made me hurt to look at it!

She has to wear a little sling-type thing that goes over her shoulders and criss crosses in the back for 10-14 days, 24 hours a day. Her biggest worry is that her friends at preschool will think she looks funny!

I'm glad to have a diagnosis, and we know it will heal in a relatively short period of time. I guess this was my introduction to the world of childhood injuries! DD1 has never broken anything or had any type of serious injury. Ugh...

Well, I'm glad that she'll be ok. Kids are very tough, but I know if it were me I would be a nervous wreck.

Hugs!

Thanks so much, Cat! Yes, I've been reading that kids do heal faster. Should take about 3 weeks whereas in adults it can take up to two months or longer. She's not a super active kid. The biggest things will be keeping her out of soccer and restricting most playground activities.

I broke mine at about the same age. I fell out of the top bunk, and though it hurt a bit, went back to bed.
In the morning, it was really hurting, so mom took me to the docs..and was so guilty to find I'd broken a bone. I don't think there's an easy way to tell that one when it first happens, though. I remember the sling. my friends thought it was cool...lol.

Glad she'll be fine. You'll be fine too....I promise.

I kinda wish I had looked up the symptoms sooner. I looked today and she has all the classic ones. But, we did basically everything the doctor has told us to do now except we didn't have the sling. The only issue now is taking care of the irritation under her arm from the sling. She wears it over a t-shirt but it still rubs against her skin.

Thanks for the support!

Oh No! Poor dd and poor you too! I haven't really had to deal with much in the injury department either, so I can only imagine how tough this had to be. I sure hope she's feeling better soon!
