It may be true, though... from BBC news, Oct. 3, 2001:
Garlic 'prevents common cold'
Garlic has traditionally been used to treat the common cold
People who take a garlic supplement each day are far less likely to fall victim to the common cold than those who do not, research suggests. Although garlic has been traditionally used to fight off and treat the symptoms of the common cold, this is the first hard evidence of its medicinal properties. However, more research will be needed to corroborate the data.
No, honestly, I swear by zinc. It's supposed to be an immunity booster, but you can't take it constantly, or it loses it's punch. First sign of a cold, I take a few for a couple of days. If I get anything at all, it stays minor and doesn't last beyond three days. My Dad clued me in to this one, thanks Pops!!
ANNNND.. if you're like me and don't eat breakfast, don't take it on an empty stomach. It makes me queasy, but it's a good excuse for cookies with my morning coffee :)
