I had my yearly physical recently and got a clean bill of health and good results on my tests.ThumbsUp.gif Got me to thinking though about what we can and should do to take care of ourselves better.

My question this week is "What do you do to take care of yourself? and what could you do better?" bigthink.gif

I've been making a conscious effort lately to eat more fruits and veggies, but I've gotten really bad about drinking enough water and exercising.

Hi all, well, doing your Annuals..whatever they may be is Very important ! I just recently did a pap after not doing one the last two years (I'm 47 w/ a history of cancer) and a growth was shown on the outside of my vagina..that I didn't notice. So embarrassing, seeing how I am very good about these things. But not being in a relationship, well, do i have to explain this any further ? (smile)

Anyway, I had Cervical Cancer in 92 and a partial hyst then and have been clean ever since, until a few months ago. A biopsy proved it to be benign. But I am having Laser surgery tomorrow morning (Say a Prayer !!!)...so I can be all Pretty again!

Other than that, my doc says I can't start swimming for a few weeks, use my free weights and stretch resistance bands (yes, in front of the tube, but I'm doing it!) and eat as best I can. I don't have a car so I walk everywhere and live where I am on the thirds floor so that means stairs.

In terms of FOOD, I think substituting little things makes it easier than giving Up a lot. Lemon juice instead of salt or Olive oil instead of regular sald dressing, Things like that.

I, personally, want to start spending more time outdoors, ins spite of the cold weather. I live in Paradise (for Goddess sakes!), the Pacific Northwest. And just Be-ing in Nature is very calming to my soul.

And more Self-nurturing...saying NO. How's that gals ??

Sincerely,

Brandy (Designergrl47)

Unfortunately, we don't do annuals over here on the good ole NHS, but I'm aware of my relevant numbers, and they're fine. I have what can really only be described as a fairly healthy lifestyle!

I eat mainly organic, locally produced food (keeping chemicals out of my system where possible, and reducing food miles). I cook most of my food from scratch or near scratch because I'm gluten intolerant, which means I can't have any wheat, rye or barley, and most oats (more because they're processed in the same place as wheat than a problem with the protein). Since they put wheat flour in the oddest things (think pre-grated CHEESE as a good example), it's just safer to buy the raw ingredients and do it yourself!

I ride my horse and walk my dog every day. I see my chiropractor when I need it (far too often, really), and my therapist once every two weeks for about 3 hours at a time for my depression, anxiety and SI. I drink aloe vera juice every morning.

I work for myself, so no stressful boss to contend with, and no 12 hours in front of the computer anymore, either!

Having said that, I'm currently arguing with my boiler, which doesn't want to give me any heating or hot water, despite british gas having been out to look at it 4 times in 5 days. This is stressful! lol

Good question!

I could slow down a little...not feel so much like I have to "fix" everything "right now".

I could eat better, I tend to just eat cold cereal for breakfast, scrambled eggs for lunch & chicken wings for supper. Ha ha! Pretty obvious I live alone, huh? When Lisa is here, I actually cook, but I'm not motivated to do it for myself, even though I enjoy it.

I could worry less about what people think & worry more about how I feel.

Ok...I think that's plenty to begin with!

Because of my transitioning, I have to keep an eye on several issues when it comes down to my health, physical, mental and spiritual. For me all three go hand in hand. I make sure that I eat when I'm hungry, so I eat Chinese food and I sometimes eat Italian. I very seldom cook for myself. As far as exercise is concerned I have been doing a lot of walking.

I was doing yoga, but that has changed, but I still know the routines and most of the relaxation breathing. Since I rely on the bus system to get me into town and back home, I walk around town, with my cane. It's slow going but I would have no reason to be in a rush. As far as my mental healthiness, if I think it's time to see my therapist, then I go and see her. Other than that if I need to relieve some stress, all I have to do is to put in one of my cartoon, dvds and just laugh my head off, lol! As far as spiritual is concerned, I go to worship every Sunday. If I'm too tired to go, then I listen to my body and stay home and rest.

Since I can worship my creator any and everywhere, I don't always have to go to church. But I would miss my church family if I didn't go, and they would wear my phone out, by calling me, and that would be to see if I'm doing ok.

But all in all, I do keep everything nice and balanced as far as all parts of my being is concerned.

Thanks and hugs,

Sebastian

Sebastian

Hi,

I'm in health and wellbeing, currently retailing aloe vera based health, nutrition and personal care products, doing Reiki and Holistic Massage Therapy, depending on what my clients want and need.

Aloe vera barbadensis is a fabulous plant that contains over 70 different nutrients that are vital for the body. It's been proven to have a beneficial effect on epithelial tissue healing (that's skin, mucous membranes, digestive system) and immune system. I take it for energy and well being. It tastes like antiseptic, but i can really feel if i've missed my morning dose, i'm hopeless and can't get anything done for the rest of the day!

And SI is self-injury, one of my worse coping mechanisms. I'm getting on top of it, but it's slow going.

Hope that helps!

Chris
