The Snickers Kiss

If you watched the Super Bowl on Sunday, you may have seen the Snickers commercial in which two mechanics were working on a car and one started eating a Snickers. The other guy came up to him and started eating the other end. They each chewed until they locked lips and then backed away from each other, made "ewww" faces and tried to act macho.
The Human Rights Campaign and GLAAD are now calling the ad offensive to gays. Does this offend you?
Here's a link to the video if you haven't seen it:

I saw the video on the 5:00pm news. I laughed at it at first, then I said, "Typical behavior". I don't know about anyone else, but I call that closeted behavior, so no, it didn't offend me.
It's just the same thing that happens between two guys that hug, they think it's "gay" to hug. When in different countries men hug and kiss each other all the time.
Personally speaking, I wouldn't kiss a guy. Except if he were a male relative and on the cheek. When my dad and my uncles were alive, I would kiss them on the lips that's a different story. On my dad's side, everyone kisses on the lips, but it's done in a loving, affectionate manner. On my mom's side, it's done on the cheek.

It didn't offend me on the surface because its how typical Heterosexual men would react (maybe not the pulling out of chest hair LOL), and just because some men like to kiss other men doesn't mean that every man has to like it.
However, I did think that is was offensive to gays and I don't think it was a good commercial because of it.
After mulling over this for a couple of days, I realized that I
Well, I guess I'm in the minority.

I agree with Jules. I thought was actually more Silly than funny. Perhaps I 've just become more complacent in my older years, or an arm-chair activist...I don't know. I am too tired to be politcally correct all the time. I spent a lot of time and energy doing so in my 20's in one organization or another for our community. I suppose I am passing the Torch for now.
A really ignorant woman(str8) where I live said this to me the other night when I suggested watching "a night of testosterone" (I was repeating the words of an ad I saw and figured she'd be pleased) on the communtiy television...watching Prison Break, 24 and The Shield. She says..."what for ? You don't even like men ?" When I responded, "Sure I do. I just don't want to have sex w/one. Besides, I leanred a long time ago "Forgive them...for they Know not what they do." (grin)

"Thoughts are things! Think Good ones!"
Offended by what? I thought it was funny and then stupid that they pulled their hair off. It showed me how stupid and shallow some straight men can be over a silly situation. In other comedy shows I've seen where the men brushed up against each other and in a comedic way act all manly. Men do have manly moments. Additionally, not all men have gay tendencies so for them to act this way is in fact their way.
Why is it that we as a community can support freedom of speech and clammer about gay shows that show men kissing men and women kissing women on public television and we want the right to produce these shows? Then we turn and want to sensor public television ads? If you didn't like it then don't eat snickers. What I found offensive was gay men on our pride show, going around flaunting boobies and acting out sexually and with foul language in front of the small children that were attending gay pride. Nice example for them to give in front of these children. We had many straight folks who attended pride to show their support for our progress and then they acted like they would inside a gay bar. A place and time for everything within good judgement is appropriate in all cases.
BTW for the record, I thought many of the commercials they showed were stupid.....JMHO here

I'm sure everyone who watched this commercial got something different out of it. I focused on the "ewww" factor, which other people will pick up on too. My concern is that
That's another way of looking at it that I hadn't thought about Jules. Just goes to show you that we all interpret things in different ways.
Thanks for responding!
It does bother me when people think lesbians hate all men. You had a good response, though!
I do hope that one day we'll get to the point in this country where two men kissing, homosexual or not, won't be gross.
